One Last Rapid with Session 1!

June 26, 2026

Reporting live from the gorgeous Sacramento airport. We currently have a Lauren, Kate, Annabel, Brooke, Mac, Laney, Augie, Brennan, Theo, Owen, Michael, and Thomas shaped hole in our hearts. Though we are super stoked for what else is in store for our crew this summer, we are equally saddened to see such an epic trip come to an end. Let’s take a look back on our final days together.

With the quickest turnaround in Moondance history, YOS 1 put our backpacking gear into the attic of our Uhaul and grabbed everything necessary to survive and thrive on the Middle Fork of the American River! Wasting no time, our raft guides Annika, Michael, Emma, and Liam threw us into the deep end starting with multiple class three rapids including Cold Cup of Coffee. It wasn’t long before the group scouted out Tunnel Chute, an appropriately named class four rapid that goes straight through a Tunnel created by miners in the 1890s who were in pursuit of discovering gold in the area. Though the rapid looked extremely intimidating at first, our guides had words of knowledge and wisdom for the group that got us all extremely fired up for our first class four of the trip. Thomas and Brooke both assisted in bringing the positive energy to help settle nerves prior to Tunnel Chute and before we knew it we successfully made it through the rapid with no swimmers! Our guides decided to surprise us with inflatable kayaks as a new mode of transportation for our post lunch rapids. Brennan and Theo teamed up in one kayak while Owen and Augie manned the other. Both kayaks braved a class three rapid and unfortunately only one boat came out unflipped. Our guide Annika remarked that she had never seen a buggy inflatable kayak make it through the section of rapids without flipping. That being said, Brennan and Theo’s paddling expertise will forever go down in history due to their boat staying afloat through this section. We floated into Life Camp, our campsite for the evening and assisted our guides in setting up our 5 star stay for the evening. The girls took advantage of the California UV and laid out on the kayaks and rafts and told stories from home and reflected on our adventures thus far. We then played hearts, canasta, and celebrity where Laney had an all time run. Little did we know that our raft guides were about to award us with the most legendary feast of our trip. Steak, chicken, pesto pasta, pasta with marinara, salad, garlic bread, roasted peppers- a true YOS standout meal. Michael in particular was overjoyed at both the quality and quantity of food for this meal. Even though we all stuffed our stomachs full of chicken and steak at dinner we were still able to make room for Brennan’s berry poundcake dessert followed by a whipped cream challenge. After our dinner and dessert had settled we then traveled to the desert to play some mafia. Thomas transformed the banks of the American River into the stomping grounds for Moroccan bandits where we played yet another riveting game and after solving crime and catching the bandits, our crew made our way to sleep and settled in for the night.

We awoke the next morning to another outstanding and delicious All Outdoors breakfast. Brennan tried his efforts as sous chef and absolutely crushed his assistant position on egg duty- he may have found his true calling. After we had our lovely and leisurely breakfast we pushed off for another jam packed day of rafting. Our first massive feat of the day was a class four rapid named Kanaka falls. Our group scouted the rapid whilst chomping on some wild blackberries and got a birds eye view of Kanaka. We were all briefed and ready to take on the falls and yet again, we all made it successfully down the rapid! Later this morning our crew pulled off onto a bank to explore a slot canyon waterfall that feeds into the river. Lauren’s bucket list dream had come true as she was able to swim at the base of a waterfall for the first time!! Truly such an epic bonus hike on our rafting section. We munched on a delicious burrito lunch and once we got fueled up we decided it was time to go into battle. We each took turns attempting to become king of the raft and be the last person standing atop of the raft. Great efforts were made and it was almost more fun being part of the peanut gallery rather than playing the game itself. After lunch we headed onward towards Camp four, our campsite for the evening. Just when we thought the friendly competition was over, our raft guide Michael set up a battle ring in the middle of the river where we found our true champions of the river. In a highly anticipated rematch, we grabbed our popcorn and watched the event of the night- THEO VS KATE. The energy was high and the crowd was going wild when finally, we had a champion… KATE CHAMPION!!!! The day winded down and to no one’s surprise All Outdoors provided another 10/10 dinner. Mac and Michael closed out our evening with a reflective Moonup and we finished out our day with Annabel having an absolutely dominating round of celebrity, shout out Bad Bunny. The group collectively decided that we needed to watch the stars and cowboy camp for our final night on the river. Thomas told us the great story of Tikki Tikki Tembo and we all drifted to sleep.

Our final day on the Middle Fork!. We awoke to another Banger breakfast of Bagels of Lox to help fuel us for the adventures to come. Vibes were high as Brennan helped chef up some great breakfast flavor combos and we got ourselves ready for the day. Annabel and Lauren led us through the flatwater in the two person Ducky kayaks, closely followed by Michael and Will. We were finally closing in on one more hidden surprise. We slowly approached a jungle type of Creek that fed into the river and our guide Michael gave us the rundown of what was going on. We followed his lead through slippery and technical river hiking into a picturesque waterfall swimming hole. The light was bursting through the canopy and the water was ROARING. The group was doing cannonballs into the drink (best done by Laney with 10/10 consensus form). The group hiked back down to enjoy an amazing Greek wrap lunch and prepared to depart onto the river. Next up was our final set of Rapids. At Chundra waterfall the group got out to watch our rafts get floated down the river then we embarked on some class 4s. The girl’s raft guided by Annika sent the rapids backwards! And the boys were guided on some class 2s by Thomas! After we got off the river and took some naps on the bus, we headed towards the Goodwill to do some thrifting. Owen and Michael went all out with three piece outfits, and the girls took on Frat boy outfits. We set out to Camp, then Dinner, at Indian Pizza Kitchen for a hilarious and insane feast. Everyone took a well-deserved snack break, and we made our back to camp Lotus for….Final Moonup. After the previous day of reflections, we took a moment to look forwards into the futures of our lives. It was emotional and beautiful, and an amazing way to close out the trip.

Airport day! Things were finally coming to an end as we packed and departed camp Lotus. We made sure to sneak in the final donut breakfast on the way to the airport. Bags were checked, and goodbyes ensued. It was a bittersweet moment, but the vibes were hopeful and positive. An amazing trip it was, a group that bonded so well and conquered so much! THANK YOU YOS 1!!!!

Cool Camping in California

June 22, 2026

Hello Moondance Families!

WOOHOOO! We made it through our backpacking section!! Our group spent the last 6 days in the backcountry, thriving off of our supplies in our backpacks, two rolls of toilet paper, a few hacky sacks, and some laughter. Although we’re very happy to have flushing toilets and access to music outside of Will and Sofie’s downloaded songs, we also had a blast and gained many skills throughout our time in the reservoir.

We jumped right in on day 5 of our trip and day 1 of backpacking with many new lessons on how to navigate the backcountry of Yosemite, including bear safety, water purification, pack fitting, and utilizing great conversations with friends to help time pass on difficult sections of the route. Once the group acquired all 14 bear cans, we completed our first of many backpack jigsaw puzzles in attempting to squeeze as many sunbutter jars, summer sausages, and canned chicken cans as possible into our packs. We said goodbye to our beautifully decorated SUVs and U-Haul and set off across the reservoir, packs filled to the brim and spirits on high. Our first push was challenging to say the least- special shouts to Kate for carrying 8+ cans of chicken. After what felt like endless switchbacks, we finally made it to a beautiful sight where we were greeted by beautiful wild flowers that were every color you could imagine, accompanied by a gorgeous sunset. We marched on, both headlamps and the waning gibbous (per Owen’s moon expertise) shining bright, and after a spooky river crossing, we arrived at the lake, our destination for the night. While Will was cheffing a delicious and well-deserved chicken pesto pasta, the group learned the arts of aquamira and sump holes. After scarfing down dinner, Brennen, Mac, Owen, Thomas, and Theo shut down the fire and the group hit the hay hard, ready to take on the next day of adventure.

The group awoke to the musical stylings of Jack Johnson and were greeted by the stunning blues of the lake and the cloudless horizon. We indulged in a classic breakfast of granola and milk with Annabel and Sofie taking creative liberties in adding coffee into their parfait making it that much more delicious and energizing. We circled up, stretched out our bodies with yoga tips and tricks from Laney and made our way towards our campsite on the banks of Lake Vernon. This hike continued to provide a plethora of wildflowers and as we make our way closer to Vernon the landscape started to shift. Around two miles out from our destination the environment completely changed as we began our trek upon white and grey rock faces. The landscapes were truly other worldly. The group took our time in an attempt to scout out the most perfect campsite to post up at for the evening as well as the following zero day. It was crucial that our campsite met our high standards of having easy swimming access, a fire pit, mountain views, and ample room to scenic sack. Lucky for us, our campsite was able to check all these boxes and truly exceeded our expectations. After a hard day of hiking the entire group rushed into the water and finally got to experience the aquatic activities they had been dreaming about for what felt like centuries.

Day 7. This day was a hot one and a chill one. A bright sun and no clouds woke us up as we took a long a sleep in next to the lake. Breakfast was pancakes to fuel us for a big day of swimming. The boys kicked things off swimming across the lake to tan on the other side, soon enough mostly everyone had joined them. Vibes were high as the group was taking much deserved rest with good eating. Cards were a must today and Owen led the charge cooking an entire pack of Pasta for a second bonus lunch- it was amazing. Soon enough it was the evening and group games were being schemed on up until this point. With the assistance of Michael and Kate, our LOD’s, Sophie led us in a game of Fishbowl and the group got to reminisce and laugh on the weird inside jokes we made together on trail. Vibes were high and bellies were full for the following days huge hike.

Day 8 may have been our greatest day so far. We started with an early wake up  before the sunrise, peaceful music was our alarm and oatmeal was our breakfast. As we prepared to start our day of hiking the sun rose over the mountain’s beautifully and the temperature warmed up. Vibes were very high as we began our 10 mile day which started on steep switchbacks. Some small river crossings and snack breaks later, we arrived at a new meadow where we ate lunch and Brooke and Thomas let us in some group games. Back to the trail we went as we descended into a valley. We were paced by Michael, Kate, and Augie as we made a final push for  our campsite. The group swam and played games wonderfully narrated by Brennan. Moonup overlooked the rapids and mountains under the stars as our LODs Theo and Laney led us through. A full and grindy day but flowed very smoothly.

The last zero day……day 9. What a banger of a day. By this point the group was well accustomed to living in the backcountry and was ready to take on the day. Pancakes were once again a must after a late wake up. Annabel and Owen were totally locked in making sure everyone was fed and the meal was delicious. One of the best parts of this day was the priority to finish every bit of food that was left. Weird flavor combos were common- most famously with Brennan’s Biscoff and Rice. Following the brunch, Will and Michael set off up trail/up river to scout waterfalls and swimming holes. The group ultimately was able to swim in some lower sections of the river and still enjoy incredible views and misting of the  falls, most notably Kate leading us to the viewpoint. Swimming had now commenced and Lauren, Annabel and Brooke found a quiet Jacuzzi pool the group hung out at. A spicy curry chicken dinner provided by our chefs of the evening- Lauren, Theo, and Owen, sealed off the eating, and our LOD’s Thomas and Kate led an amazing moonup at sunset on the river. The sun was beaming over Kahala rock and into the reservoir in a picturesque moment. The group was wrapping up its final night on trail.

Though our time on the loop was coming to a close, day 10 continued to provide magical experiences throughout the whole day for our group. At the ripe hour of 5am Brooke, Kate, and Brennan joined Sofie and Will in a sunrise polar plunge in the pools of the falls. The vibes were extremely high going into our final day of hiking. Brooke kicked off our morning huddle with a Moondance classic, Shake and Pop. Once our bodies were all stretched out and warmed up from dancing we set off and soaked up every last view. Yosemite yet again provided another day of gorgeous weather and scenic views around every turn. While passing through, of course Michael had to get some last minute candid photos next to the raging waters flowing into the reservoir. The group finished strong and awarded ourselves with a celebratory gas station stop and bought out its entire Ulta Vice Guava inventory and completed the long awaited grand tour of the Diamond Springs In and Out. This establishment had no clue what was coming for them as we cleaned out their fryers and burger supply. The group made our way to our camp and where we were finally able to take non Dr Bronners showers in the campsites facilities. Once the crew had cleaned up we scarfed down a Michael, Laney, and Brooke classic of chicken nugget stir fry with yumyum sauce. We closed out the evening with a reflective Moonup looking back on our fears going into the trip and how we’ve since overcame them and bonded as a group over our achievements. The night closed in its traditional manner of a Thomas narrated game of Mafia.

Living in up in Yosemite!

June 16, 2026

Hey Moondance Families!

We are reporting live from gorgeous Yosemite. We have spent the last four days taking in the beautiful scenes of Yosemite and soaking up everything California has to offer. We are so stoked to dive into our backpacking section but before we do, let’s reminisce on our first days of exploration and adventure.

Airport day was truly a breeze. Everyone arrived safely and soundly. Augie, Will, and Sofie wasted no time dialing in our hacky sack skills in terminal A as we patiently waited for the rest of our crew to file in. Once we gathered the group and Brennan, Michael, and Will cleared our airport charcuterie platter we made our way towards Oh Ridge for some classic first night pizza. We played many more rounds of hacky sack and munched on pizzas. Shortly into the trip we discovered that there in fact is an up and coming celebrity in our group. Thomas from @thomas_reviews7 did his first live food review for the group rating our first meal as a group a 7/10. We all gathered for Moonup under the clearest sky that many of us had ever seen, watched some shooting stars, and rested up for our first day of activities.

Our group woke up bright and early with the sun, ready to get active for our first day of climbing. Cook crew 1 set the cooking bar high with special props to Theo’s expertise in bacon making skills. Annabel and Augie brought the energy as our first LODs (leaders of the day) and set the tone for a great day of climbing. We made our way into the park and met up with our guides. The vibes at the crag we IMMACULATE. No “choss” climbing here as Mac would say. The whole group brought the stoke for some rather tricky slab climbing on granite- a Yosemite special. The group all gained new climbing techniques and also practiced their belaying skills. Big shouts to Lauren for beasting all four of the routes with ease. To celebrate a hard day’s work we headed into the charming town and cooled down with some ice cream. And just when we thought the day couldn’t get anymore epic, we made our way over to the lake to enjoy views of snowcapped mountains as we took a dip in the lake. On the shore of the beach we played spike ball and sack where we discovered that Brooke can get rather competitive when it comes to beach games. We got back to camp for dinner which was an amazing stir fry made by Laney, Michael, and Brooke. Moonup was around a fire and had amazing vibes.

Day three was an incredible day from start to finish. After finishing an amazing breakfast cooked by Kate, Brennan, and Thomas, we head out for our second day of climbing. The objective of the day, crack climbing. One of our guides, led the first female ascent of El Capitan and is an absolute crusher. She provided us with all the techniques to take on the tricky terrain of the Guide cracks. Our first ascensionist was Kate who pointed out an amazing traversing line up the face of the rock then went on to send it twenty minutes later. Somehow the stoke was even higher today and the group was all in on the challenging routes. After hiking down from the crag to our cars, we checked out a nearby alpine lake known as Tenaya lake. From here the weather actually took a huge turn as rain and storms moved into the park. On our drive out we experienced snow and hail at higher elevations, with rain at the lower ones. This did not dampen our spirits. From there we enjoyed an incredible pasta dinner which Annabel and Mac led cooking.

Day four… Park Exploration! Our leaders of the day Laney and Thomas led off with some dancing after breakfast to get the blood flowing before we set off for Yosemite Valley. Every turn on the drive was more breathtaking than the last until we finally got our sights on El Capitan and Half dome! The sheer size of the rock faces was indescribable, we saw climbers look like tiny specks as they tried to climb it. We started with a small hike to lunch at Lower Yosemite falls where Owen led us to some hilarious interactions with other hikers and to our peak of the trail. After, we needed to get a proper look at El Capitan so we shuttled over and proceeded to have an all time hacky sack game on the meadows below it. We got some incredible pictures and views to go with it as well! We snacked up before our hike, Michael killed an entire pint of Ice cream then cruised up the trail to lead us to an incredible waterfall where we all got soaked. It was from here we descended and left the park to drive out to music and sunsets. Even though it was late we all had great energy for Moonup where we recapped our day and brought some psych to our Backpacking section!

We will check back in after the backcountry! See you soon!
