Dancing In The Dolomites!

What a way to finish.
After leaving the mountains behind, we arrived in what may be the smallest town in all of Italy. Nestled above the valley, it truly feels like stepping back in time. We spent the afternoon playing soccer and games on a field near our hotel. We’ve got some pretty impressive soccer stars, with Asher, Katie, and Ruthie running the show. We had Moonup around the public fountain, overlooking the valley with an incredible view and a cool breeze rolling through the hills. While we were gathered there, an older Italian woman walked by speaking to us in only Italian. We caught on to two words: concerto and piazza. Naturally, the group wanted to investigate. We wandered down expecting to find a church concert at the cathedral. Instead, we stumbled upon a full outdoor band with guitars, drums, piano, and a vocalist putting on an incredible show in the middle of the piazza. It is important to note that earlier that day while hiking, the group had been singing “Don’t Look Back in Anger” by Oasis almost the entire trail. We figured the band was only playing Italian music, but then, out of nowhere, the opening chords of Oasis started playing. We absolutely lost it. Within minutes, we had completely taken over the venue. The band seemed just as excited as we were and started playing almost exclusively English songs. They followed this with “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” Allie and I went crazy. The boys lifted Ralph off the ground and paraded him through the piazza. The band encouraged the kids to sing along, invited the whole group behind the stage for their finale, and even let some of our crew jump in on the instruments. Asher grabbed a guitar while Hudson and Lauren took over the piano. It was a moment you couldn’t have planned if you tried.
As leaders, it was one of those magical nights that reminded us exactly why we spend our summers doing this. We were in awe that, in this sleepy town, we could stumble upon an experience like this one. We were so caught up in the fun that we had to sprint back to the hotel, arriving just before curfew.
The next morning, we geared up for canyoneering and spent the day rappelling down waterfalls, swimming through unbelievably blue, crystal-clear water, scrambling over canyon walls, and jumping off cliffs into icy pools below. For this group of dedicated LARPers, they stepped straight into the set of Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider. Asher and Hudson committed to a double rappel into the canyon, followed by Katie and me. It was one of the coolest adventures of the trip and easily both Moss’ and my favorite day.
After lunch, it was time for our third and final DOLB Talent Show. This group absolutely delivered. Katie and Lauren stole the show with a fully choreographed dance to “Come On Eileen,” while Hudson somehow managed to recite the first 100 digits of pi in about 20 seconds. Moss and I wrapped up the event by playing “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over” by Lenny Kravitz, and it was hard not to get a little emotional realizing our final session together was coming to a close.
Of course, the fun didn’t stop there. The boys squeezed in another elaborate LARPing session, with William and Witt taking me hostage. Allie led the charge to search for new, fun, international snacks from the one shop in town, with Eve and AT trying all the most unique Italian snacks and drinks they could find. That evening, we returned to the soccer field for Moonup before being challenged by a group of local Italian teenagers to a soccer match. Let us tell you…they do not mess around over here. It turned into a surprisingly competitive game under the stadium lights, and we stayed out playing until late into the night.
When we finally made it back to the hotel, we ran into our new friends from the concert the night before. Someone disappeared downstairs to grab a giant speaker, and before long, we had an impromptu international dance party going in the hotel, playing songs from Italy, the Netherlands, and the U.S. We danced until we were sweaty and exhausted. This group has endless energy, incredible dance moves, and somehow always finds a reason to celebrate together.
Our final full day brought us to Venice. Naturally, our first stop was gelato. After that, we made our way to a very niche, local boutique called Zara :). Law made the executive decision that the boys could not be caught on the streets of Venice without getting absolutely fitted out. The boys all emerged wearing matching linen shirts and pants, fully convinced they now blended in with the Venetian locals, notably Witt in his full fit and fedora. We spent the afternoon wandering the canals, shopping, stopping for many snacks, and soaking up our last full day together.
That evening, we took a water taxi to our final dinner. Somehow, despite being in Italy for two weeks, this was only our second pizza dinner, so we made up for lost time. Together, the group demolished roughly twelve pizzas—a record-setting performance, if you ask us. One final gelato stop was obviously necessary before heading back for our final Moonup, led by Eve and Ralph. We all piled onto my bed one last time to fill each other’s Nug Jugs and reflect on the past two weeks together. We shared favorite memories, laughed about inside jokes, and talked about just how special this group has been. It is impossible to put into words how much we have loved spending these past two weeks with your kids.
We finished the night from the top of our hostel, overlooking the canals of Venice as the city glowed below us. It was one of those moments we’ll remember forever.
Thank you for trusting us with your incredible kids. This group has made our final session of the summer more meaningful than we ever could have imagined. We love these kids, we’re already missing them, and we cannot wait to see everyone again soon.

Checking Back In!

Hello from DOL 3B!!
We have some great new updates for you. Our second day of climbing at Cinque Torri was another huge success! This crew somehow found even more energy after an already packed week in the mountains. Witt and Hudson quickly became our master belayers, keeping everyone safe and cheering each climber on from below, while Will and Law were determined to tackle every single route they could find. Katie, Eve, and Ann Tolly (AT) encouraged each other up two of the tallest climbs of the day, pushing themselves higher with every attempt, while Allie continued building confidence on the wall with every climb. It was so much fun watching everyone’s confidence grow throughout the morning.
After climbing (and enjoying another well-earned Italian lunch), we headed back to the rifugio for one of our favorite downtime activities yet: Fish Bowl. Ruthie and Lauren kept the game running smoothly by organizing the endless pile of charade prompts while Asher and Law fully committed to acting out every ridiculous clue imaginable. Between dramatic performances, nonstop laughter, and some questionable strategy, Law’s team managed to pull off the victory.
The afternoon brought some much-needed rest before the boys inevitably decided they couldn’t sit still any longer. Their latest round of LARPing led them on an adventure through a massive World War I cave system hidden in the mountains. As the sun began to set, the battles only became more dramatic. Ralph and Will embarked on an ambitious mission to flank the opposing team while Asher, Hudson, and Witt expertly defended their position. It has been so fun watching their imaginations run wild in one of the most incredible settings imaginable.
The following day we packed up once again and hit the trail, trekking over 10 miles through yet another breathtaking section of the Dolomites. Michele, our incredible guide, is known for setting a quick pace, but this group rose to the challenge without hesitation. Katie and Lauren kept spirits high with conversations along the trail, while Allie and Ruthie encouraged one another through the steeper sections. Everyone kept up beautifully, supporting each other every step of the way. Once we reached our next rifugio, the packs came off, the boots were loosened, and-naturally-the boys immediately found a pull-up bar to test their strength after hiking all day.
Our biggest challenge was still ahead of us as we set off for Rifugio Tissi, perched dramatically on the edge of one of the most spectacular peaks in the Dolomites and accessible only by foot. The climb was no small feat, but this group absolutely crushed it. Will, Eve, and AT somehow managed to stay right on Michele’s heels the entire hike, earning themselves the title of the group’s resident speed demons. Reaching the rifugio felt like such an accomplishment, and the panoramic views from the summit made every step worthwhile.
After settling in, everyone enjoyed a well-deserved afternoon of relaxing. Some took naps while others soaked in the scenery. The boys gathered for an epic game of hacky sack on the refuge’s helipad, Lauren introduced everyone to new card games, and Law and Hudson couldn’t resist exploring every corner of the summit like true adventurers. Katie, Allie, and Eve enjoyed taking in the incredible views from the ridge while Ruthie made sure no one missed another sunset photo opportunity.
That evening, we shared one final Moonup in the mountains, led by Ruthie and Will. As the sun dipped behind the surrounding peaks, the group reflected on everything we had experienced together over the past week. It was the perfect way to celebrate such an unforgettable stretch of our adventure.
The next morning, Katie, Allie, Hudson, Law, and Witt woke before sunrise for one last hike to watch the sun rise over the Dolomites. The quiet morning and glowing peaks made for a truly special farewell to the mountains.
After breakfast, we shouldered our packs one last time and began our descent. The hike down quickly turned into an a cappella concert as the boys worked their way through classics from Oasis, Journey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tyler Childers, and Alice in Chains. Their soundtrack carried us all the way to the valley, where we boarded our bus and said goodbye to the Dolomites.
Our next stop brought us to the charming hill town of Clauzetto, where the pace slowed just enough for everyone to recharge. The group immediately found a soccer field and spent the afternoon playing soccer, dodgeball in the park, and enjoying the warm breeze rolling through the hills. It was the perfect transition from our days in the mountains as we prepare for the final chapter of our Italian adventure.
This group continues to amaze us every single day. They have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, encouraged one another through every climb and hike, and somehow still find endless energy for games, music, and laughter. We feel incredibly lucky to spend these weeks with such an awesome crew and can’t wait to see what our final days together have in store!

Checking In From The Dolomites!!

Hellooo from DOL3B!
We have officially settled into our trip here in the Dolomites, although it didn’t take long for this crew to come together. We’ve already packed so much into the first half of our trip, and we couldn’t be more grateful for this awesome group! After landing in Italy, we made our way to the beautiful mountain town of Corvara, where the first order of business was, of course, pizza. Whilst recovering from the travel, we spent the afternoon hanging out by the pool and exploring our beautiful hotel. It really didn’t take long for friendships to form, and our first Moonup reminded us just how excited everyone was to be here together.
The first full day brought us to the Via Ferrata (Iron Path) Les Cordes. We climbed to the refugio Gardencia aided by an iron-wired system, soaking in incredible views above Corvara and enjoyed lunch at the top. We went into town and spent another relaxing afternoon playing around the hotel. Our first LODs, Ann Tolly and Witt, led us in moonup surrounded by dramatic peaks. The next morning we tackled our first full-day trek, hiking all the way to Rifugio Valparola beneath the towering Setsass. Even after miles on the trail, the group somehow found enough energy for games around the refuge, cards, and climbing around every peak nearby. We had another incredible Moonup, with Asher and Hudson showing off on the guitar afterwards. With Witt on the harmonica, we’re about ready to start a band.
From there we headed up Sass de Stria, climbing another Via Ferrata while weaving through remarkably preserved World War I trenches. The history along the trail made the day especially memorable, and after reaching the summit, everyone enjoyed a well-deserved picnic with incredible views stretching across the Dolomites. After this the boys were locked in an afternoon of hilarious reenactment, creating personalized “guns” (sticks) for a drama-filled game of capture the flag through the nearby trenches with Sarah and Ruthie as “medics” and Katie as our referees. Lauren brought the final victory for team blue, and Law graciously strapped a GoPro to his chest—leaving us with a lot of footage to share. We had the BEST dinner of pastas and lamb and a sweet moonup and music session.
Our next adventure brought us to Lagazuoi, where we rode the cable car high into the mountains before descending through yet more WWI tunnels carved inside the rock. It was an unforgettable experience to walk through so much history before continuing toward Cinque Torri and our cozy home at Rifugio Averau, hiking nearly 10 miles throughout the day. Eve and AT made fast friends with our guide Filippo along the way. The rain came along our arrival at the rifugio, and with no space left inside, we had a truly chaotic lunch. The group ordered irresistible, warm burgers, and we ate seeking refuge under a small staircase. After the rain passed, we took yet another hike up to Novelau peak, home to the oldest rifugio in all of the Dolomites. We played hacky sack, card games, made bracelets, and enjoyed another incredible Italian dinner together at our favorite spot! After moonup, Will proved his strength in our “try not to laugh” challenge, and we turned in early for a World Cup watch party!!
This morning we woke up at 4:45 to hike back up to the Novelau Peak with Witt, Hudson, Asher, Ralph, and our Refugiero friend, Alexander. It was beautiful to watch the sun come up over the peaks and was truly remarkable because the clouds completely encompassed our view from behind— the sunrise being our only tunnel of vision. We hiked down and went right back to sleep in attempts to get an extra sip of rest before a day of climbing in Cinque Torri. We’ve got some climbers in this crew! We set up many, many routes this morning in the most iconic and beautiful spot in the Dolomites. Hudson and Asher muscled up every climb, and Allie learned to belay for the first time. She absolutely crushed it! This group continues to amaze us every day. They have made leading this trip an absolute joy. Thank you for trusting us with your amazing kids. We feel incredibly lucky to have this group for our final tour here in the Dolomites, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the trip has in store!

We heard from our leaders early this morning that the group has landed safely in Venice! The trip is off to a great start, and we cannot wait to hear more stories from their adventure!
