Pozdrav svima!
We cannot believe that we are on the back-end of our trip – we are having an absolute blast over here!
Since we last checked in with you all, we were on Rab Island with our beach activities for the trip! We woke up this morning to a beautiful blue sky and sun shining, and it immediately set the positive tone for the day. We had sea kayaking on the agenda, so we fueled the group with some yogurt bowls with berries, granola, and bananas to get everyone ready to go. Our LODs for the day led us through our morning huddle and we were off to the water to begin the activity. There were no waves and it was the picture perfect day to sea kayak. We had an ambitious sea kayaking group and we got to our lunch destination in no time! We were eating lunch on an island off the coast of Rab. The whole group followed Harrison and Ella up to the top of the island to soak in the magical view. We could see the Northern Velebit Mountain range cast above the crystal clear waters. We enjoyed skipping rocks, making rock towers, and swimming for a few hours. Finley and Camp enjoyed a nice nap in the kayaks. Once it was time to paddle back, everyone hopped in the boats to begin the journey. Olivia, Joe, Mathes, and Bobby enjoyed taking GoPro footage under water when we hopped out of our kayaks to take a swimming break. Before we knew it, we were back to the docks and packing up the kayaks! We headed over to a restaurant to grab an afternoon snack after our much deserved hard work. Harrison and Camp found a fishing rod at a nearby store that they were going to use for the rest of the trip! We headed to the beach to spend the rest of the afternoon there. Our time was filled with group games, swimming in the water, and exploring nearby islands. We headed back to the hostel to begin cooking dinner – pasta with meat sauce! Our cook crew, Ella, Matthew, Camp, and Sophia helped make this delicious meal and we all enjoyed it so much! Caroline and Jake had a fun evening surprise for the group so we quickly cleaned up dinner to reveal the secret! We had a beach volleyball game in store for the evening! The group ran down to the beach and we divided into teams with one leader on each team:
Team 1: Caroline, Mathes, Finley, Harrison, Owen, Ella, Camp
Team 2: Jake, Grayson, Joseph, Bobby, Lilly, Olivia, Sophia, Matthew
Mathes, our volleyball star, showed her awesome skills on the sand! We played one regular game of volleyball before switching to Newcomb. It was so much fun! We played best of three and team one came out on top with an honorary shoutout to Harrison and Finley (the master server!). We ended the night with a lovely moonup under the stars and the LODs picked Lilly and Camp to lead us through our day tomorrow!
We woke up this morning ready to get started on our activity… an island boat tour! The whole group was so excited to spend the day on the boat, and we got started on cooking some eggs, sausage, and fruit to start our day. We met up with our guides, and we hopped on the boat. We went to four spots today, two of which included snorkeling in a cave. Bobby and Matthew were our brave two to go first and the rest of the group joined! Joe and Harrison enjoyed jumping off the boat while trying to nail the perfect spiderman photo! After we swam for a bit, we headed to a cliff jumping spot. There were a few jumping points, so the group was very excited to try it. Olivia, Sophia, Lilly, Joe, Harrison, and Grayson all jumped in and motivated the rest of the group to join them. We were all jumping and having the best time! The sun came out just in time for our afternoon at the beach – and we brought out the volleyball and played another game of Newcomb! It has most definitely become a group favorite game. Somehow Sophia and Grayson are always the ones representing the teams at the very end and always show OUT!!! We walked around some of the nearby shops and got to explore the rest of the island on our last day. We headed back to the hostel to begin working on dinner – TACOSSS!! Our cook crew, Finley, Camp, Lilly, and Bobby crushed the dinner and everyone loved it. After dinner, the girls made their way to the balcony with a speaker and started singing Taylor Swift while the sun was setting in the background. Joe somehow ended up as group videographer and caught this special moment! We had a fabulous moonup where Sophia and Owen are our LODs for our next adventure. We ended the night with some gelato and said goodbye to the lovely island!!
We woke up this morning to the beautiful sun shining on Rab Island! We made some breakfast and got all packed up to go for our next adventure. Our LODs led us through our morning huddle where they shared that we will be heading to the Northern Velebit Mountains to begin our trekking portion. We loaded up the van and headed to the ferry that would take us off the island. We had some time to kill before we caught the ferry so we played some awesome music and all jammed out in the car. Taylor Swift “All Too Well 10 minute version” has been a staple with this group and we have loved screaming our hearts out to it in the van. We stopped for lunch at a delicious restaurant right on the water! The group tried Ćevapi, a local Croatian dish, and they absolutely LOVED it! Harrison and Finely ate the Cuttlefish Risotto, which was also a hit! We got some snacks to bring up the mountain with us and headed back in the van for the last stretch of our drive. Once we arrived, the group put on their tennis shoes and walked up to a nearby peak to soak in the beautiful views. The boys enjoyed a lovely photoshoot at the top of the mountain and we could see Rab Island down below from where we were! Owen, Mathes, and Olivia were in charge of cheffing up some chicken, mashed potatoes, and a salad for the group. Let’s say this was a group favorite! Meanwhile, Grayson, Joe, and Bobby helped pave the way up another nearby mountain where the boys unlocked their favorite view yet! They came down filled with energy and sharing stories about what they saw. We ate dinner right as the sun was setting and it was the most magical meal. We watched the bright orange and yellow sun dip behind the clouds while the sky illuminated blues and pinks. It was one of those moments that you wanted to take a mental snapshot and keep forever! We had a lovely moonup under the stars where our LODs picked Lilly and Grayson to lead us through our day tomorrow!
We got to sleep in a bit this morning and the group felt extra ready to begin our hike for the day! We had a big day… the Twin Peaks. This is a ~6.5 mile hike with over 2,000 feet in elevation change. We summit the two tallest mountains in the Northern Velebit region! With morale high, the group took off for our day. Camp led the group fearlessly with Bobby and Joe trailing close behind him. We quickly realized that Camp could be a professional trail runner, as he climbed the mountain with such ease and balance. The group walked by some breathtaking views of forestry, rocks, and the sunny skies lit up the area. We made it to our first summit, and Jake pulled out some candy to keep the group motivated. We enjoyed a quick snack at the top and continued our hike to the second summit. All the boys (Jake, Bobby, Matthew, Harrison, Joe, Camp, Owen, Grayson) decided to time themselves on how long it would take to get to the top. They timed that it took them 14 minutes 40 seconds! Record timing! The girls followed quickly behind them with a 21 minute summit. We enjoyed a much deserved lunch in the beautiful sunny weather. The sandwiches always taste 10x better after a long hike! Olivia and Sophia brought out their cameras for a lovely photoshoot at the top, and the whole group soaked in the view. We headed back down to the mountain hut and the group enjoyed some Hydra electrolyte/vitamin drink. They are so good and the group has loved them on this trip! Card games are quite popular amongst the group, especially spoons. Before we knew it, we were cooking dinner… chicken fried rice! Lilly, Bobby, and Grayson were on our lovely cook crew and they made the best dinner that we enjoyed right as the sun was setting. We soaked in the view and then got ready to have a moonup under the stars. We saw five shooting stars and counting! Our LODs picked Ella and Bobby to lead us through day two of trekking!
We started the day off with Finley, Mathes, Olivia, and Ella helping us cook some french toast for the group to enjoy before we began our second day of hiking! On the agenda, we had a beautiful 10-mile hike along the Premuzieceva Staza Trail that was built 100 years ago by hand. The trail is filled with some beautiful views and the group absolutely had a blast. To motivate the group, Caroline and Jake read a motivational speech teaching the group to “Rock Out!” these last few days of the trip. It got everyone super pumped to continue out the rest of our trip with the utmost energy and enthusiasm! We stopped for lunch at a hut at our halfway point. Once again, the sandwiches after hiking were an absolute hit. Jake took some of the boys to another lookout point where they were able to climb some rocks to a beautiful view. Owen was the first one up and got some sick photos of him in his Moondance gear! We met up with the rest of the group and continued our hike back. Bobby and Camp led the group at the front! Once we got back, we rewarded ourselves with some Hydra drinks and downtime by listening to Jake play the guitar. Matthew played a few tunes too which was so fun to hear him play! Finley, Ella, Matthew, and Joe were on cooking crew tonight for another taco dinner… woohoo! While we were cooking, the group enjoyed having a relaxing evening of reading, journaling, and playing cards. Dinner was served during golden hour and the sky lit up the mountains in the most beautiful way. We were all feeling bittersweet about leaving the mountain hut… we all love it so much! We took some pictures at sunset and threw around the football before enjoying our last moonup under the mountain stars. Our LODs picked Finley and Matthew to lead us on our next adventure tomorrow!

Bok Families!!! We have had the best start to our adventure and we cannot wait to share with you all what we have been up to. It has been a pleasure getting to know your kids so far, and we have had such a blast!
Once everyone arrived safely in the Zagreb airport, we began our drive to where we are staying for the next few days in the Plitvice area. The group piled in the van, and we immediately began getting to know each other. Van rides are always the best opportunity to just chat with people, and we had some awesome icebreakers! We stopped halfway to grab some groceries, and the kids hung out with Marko, our van driver for the next few weeks – he is amazing! Joe and Harrison showed Marko some of their soccer skills, and the rest of the group quickly joined. For the back half of the ride the kids slept which was very deserved after the long day of travel! Once we arrived we were greeted with a delicious dinner – just like home of a Croatian twist of Chick-Fil-A! Bobby agreed it might be better than Chick-Fil-A itself. We took some showers and cleaned up before having our first moonup of the trip with the beautiful sunset cast across the sky. We picked Mathes and Joe to be our LODs (leader of the day) for tomorrow for our very first activity!!! Woohoo!!
We woke up this morning with some music played by Caroline and Jake to get everyone fired up for our first activity… white water rafting down the Mrežnica River!! We fueled up with some breakfast of eggs, toast, and coffee as well as packed our lunch for the day. Before hopping in the van, Mathes and Joe led us through our first morning huddle to get the tone ready for the day. We listened to some awesome music in the van sponsored by our LODs before arriving at the activity. After a safety briefing we were in the water! We were in duckie boats of two, and we were going down beautiful waterfalls ranging from 5-11 feet. There were also some cliff jumping spots, which Joe and Harrison fearlessly jumped off first. The rest of the group quickly followed. In our downtime on the river, we enjoyed splashing one another, flipping each others boats (which Bobby and Ella were very good at), and jumping in the water. The views were absolutely spectacular and truly such a special first day! Once we were out of the water we ate our lunch. Jake cut up a delicious watermelon that the group loved and we got to relax a little and debrief how awesome our activity was! The boys felt ambitious and played frisbee in the nearby grass area while the girls stayed back and chatted for a bit. We got back in the van and headed back to our hostel where we immediately broke into some group games – Empire and Imposter! Finley and Joe in both games were our finalists! We loved these games and will definitely bring it back throughout the trip! We ate dinner of pork, beans, cucumber salad, and soup – it was so yummy! They also brought out a fruit cake which everyone enjoyed! We got cleaned up and showered before our LODs led us through our first moonup. They picked Bobby and Finley to be our LODs for tomorrow!
Today was an awesome day because it was JOE’S 16th BIRTHDAY!!! Woohoo!!! The group woke up to some birthday tunes and an epic dance party to celebrate the morning. The group all wrote Joe a card and we surprised him with it at breakfast. We got ready for our activity of the day… hiking through Plitvice National Park. The views in the park are absolutely spectacular and truly some of the most beautiful waterfalls we have ever seen. Right when you walk into the park, you look down into the entire national park and just see all these waterfalls and bright green trees covering the forest. We took some pictures and began our journey! Mathes, Finley, Bobby, and Grayson led the pack in the front! At our halfway point, we found a coffee shop, so Olivia, Finley, Lilly, and Ella stopped for a caffeine break before continuing the journey. We hiked alongside the upper lakes of the park and to our left was some of the most blue water we have ever seen!! Harrison and Matthew were asking great questions to our guide for the trip, Pau, about the history of the park and the Croatian language. We arrived at our lunch spot at a beautiful waterfall, and the group sat down to eat our sandwiches we had packed earlier in the day. Camp, Owen, and Grayson found a nearby cave that they explored, and Lilly and Ella quickly followed behind them. It was so cool! We finished our hike and then headed back to the hostel! The group showered and got ready, while Caroline and Jake went on a secret mission to surprise the group with a cake baked from scratch. We all ate dinner together, which was a delicious chicken kebob and potatoes, before the leaders headed back into the kitchen to finish their craft. Once the cake was ready, we brought it out and sang happy birthday, and everyone loved the cake!! We finished the night with a game of mafia, narrated by Finley and Sophia before we had moonup. The LODs picked Olivia and Harrison to lead us through our day tomorrow!
We had an earlier start to our day to begin our travel day to Rab Island! We said goodbye to our beloved accommodations and thanked them for their wonderful hospitality! We jumped in the van – Harrison and Olivia immediately started getting an awesome queue lined up for our car ride. Matthew and Owen were getting everyone hyped up in the car and excited for our next adventure. We went grocery shopping for the next few days and once we arrived at our accommodations we stopped for lunch. We went to a delicious kebab, chicken, and burger place on the island that everyone loved. Sophia and Mathes agreed that these chicken nuggets reminded them of home! We headed to the beach for a wonderful beach afternoon. We enjoyed swimming, hanging out in the sand, and buying refreshments from nearby stores to keep us cool in the heat. The best part of our beach day was Caroline and Jake bringing out two iconic Moondance games: Shake and Pop + Birdie on Perch. Joe loved Shake and Pop and got the group fired up to play it multiple times throughout the rest of the evening! We had so much fun and laughed a bunch, and we headed back to the hostel to shower and get ready for dinner. We were going out for pizza which everyone was excited about. At dinner, Harrison, Joe, Sophia, Ella, and Caroline all talked about the best way to eat, make, and create the perfect sandwich. It became a hot dinner topic of conversation! We then headed back to the beach to moonup right as the sun was setting – it was perfect! As the stars were approaching above our heads, we closed moonup with another game of birdie on a perch. Joe + Caroline and Bobby + Matthew were our finalists and competed in a veggie off to break the tie. We had the best evening and we were back in the hostel in no time ready for our first beach activity tomorrow with Ella and Matthew being our wonderful LODs!
Chat soon everyone!! We are having the best time and we are so thankful for you all sending your kids with us 😊
Live in the moment!
– Caroline and Jake
