Birthday Celebrations and Town Explorations!

July 3, 2026

Jake and I cannot believe how quickly this trip has gone by! We have adored getting to know each of your kids, and we are incredibly grateful for the time that we have gotten to spend with them the past two weeks. The last trip update!

To begin, we had a bright and early start to our travel day as we departed from our beloved mountain hut. Everyone was sad to say goodbye, especially to a now dear friend Ivan who owns the property. Our LODs for the day, Scarlett and Jack, were in charge of all the music for a long day of travel ahead. Van rides have become some of the groups’ favorite part of the trip because we get lost in conversations and screaming song lyrics. Scarlett got some Taylor Swift which Caroline and some of the girls were VERY happy about. They introduced the group to the 10-minute version of All Too Well, which is now getting played quite regularly in our van rides. Once we arrived, we told the group that we would be exploring the Modric Cave. Scarlett was fearlessly leading the pack with Sawyer and Alice close behind! Lane did a great job asking thoughtful questions to Marjan, our guide for the day, to learn more about the history. The group saw the claw bone of an ancient cave bear from the prehistoric era. Everyone thought it was so cool and had the best time! Once we wrapped up, the group was hungry and it was time for a delicious pizza lunch right on the beach. The pizzas were rolling out and our bellies were full by the end of lunch! People got in their bathing suits and we had a beach afternoon. Lydia and Harris led the pack into the water and we had a wonderful group swim! Anderson, Jack, and lane found a nearby waterpark and started jumping around on it! We had a wonderful afternoon, and then we began our drive into the Old Town City of Zadar. It is such a magical and historical place, and we are so lucky to be able to stay there! We got to explore the city – the girls enjoyed shopping in some of the local stores and Mango, while the boys found Croatian jerseys in a nearby store and Sawyer found a Tung Tung Sahor shirt. They looked awesome in all their new gear, and then we headed over to our dinner restaurant. We had burgers and everyone was SO happy with the meal. We took a walk around the city after dinner and got to see the most beautiful sunset. There were bubbles floating around everyone, so Lydia, Harris, Lane, Alice, and Scarlett all enjoyed popping them as they floated by. It was a magical evening! On our way back to the hostel, we treated the kids to a local ice cream stop! A fan favorite was the Mango flavor, and we all agreed that we had the most perfect day! We had a moonup where our LODs picked Alice and Sawyer to lead us through our last activity of the trip tomorrow!

We woke up in Zadar to a delicious breakfast to get us ready for our activity – ziplining! The hostel gave us complimentary coffee with our stay, so everyone enjoyed getting to treat themselves to cappuccinos and iced vanilla lattes. We hopped in the van and began our drive to the ziplining. The group stopped at a convenience store, where Bartley tried some chocolate croissants that the entire group loved. We had all the snacks and yummy foods with a side of our LOD DJs of the day, and before we knew it we arrived! We got there a bit early, so the group walked around the town. Lane and Anderson stopped in a t-shirt store and bought a Tung-Tung Sahor shirt to twin with Sawyer. When it was time, the group headed over to begin our safety debrief and walk to the start of the ziplines. We had the opportunity to go on eight ziplines through the Centina Ridge in Omis. Alice was our brave one to go first and Sims crushed her initial fear of heights and loved the activity. We all zipped down, saw beautiful views, and laughed at Caroline’s intense screams on every single line. After we wrapped up our activity, we headed to our campsite for the most perfect afternoon. We were camping right on the beach with the most spectacular view. The whole group went for a swim, and Lane and Scarlett got the group to jump off some nearby rocks. We had so much fun swimming and having a lowkey afternoon after a busy past few days. The guys kept swimming for a while, while some of the girls got showered and sat up by the restaurant until dinner. We had a fan-favorite dinner of the session with calamari and meat plates coming out towards the table. Everyone’s mouths were watering and we enjoyed the delicious meal. The sun was setting perfectly over the sky as we wrapped up, so we hustled down to the beach to begin our second to last moonup. Sawyer revealed the nug jug drawn on his chest and the whole group started cheering in excitement. Then, Alice spontaneously shouted that we should all swim in our clothes at sunset and the whole crew sprinted in. Scarlett, Lane, Sawyer, Alice immediately jumped in the water with the rest of the group quickly trailing behind them. It was an epic way to end the nug jug! We then showered after our sunset swim and headed to bed in our tents to begin our last day of the trip tomorrow.

We started off the day AMAZING because it was Bartley’s 17th birthday!!! Jake and Caroline woke up the group playing “Birthday” by Katy Perry and immediately jumped into a dance party. Everyone was hugging and cheering for the long awaited birthday. We packed up camp and loaded up the van to prepare for our travel day to Dubrovnik. We ate breakfast, and sang Happy Birthday for the first time with a delicious breakfast cake. Once we got in the van, we got some awesome tunes going to get everyone excited for our last day! We stopped at a restaurant on the way for some burgers, chicken nuggets, and fries. It was delicious and we ended the lunch with another happy birthday to bart and a small chocolate cake for the group to bite on. We had got to the hostel in no time and everyone put on their Croatia jerseys and outfits for our town day! We took the public transportation bus which the group really enjoyed and had fun to talking to the people around us! The town day was TONS of fun! We got to go shopping, Alice, Julia, and Lydia got some beautiful jewelry, and Emmet, Jake, and Sawyer explored the nearby monuments. The Old Town was gorgeous and is loaded with history, which Lane and Bartley were inquisitive and thoughtful in asking questions. We had our banquet dinner in the town, where we ate a variety of pastas, pizzas, and salads to end our time. We went around the table and shared our favorite activities and reflected on the time spent together. We had to end our final night with some gelato for the last time, and the group LOVED it! We headed back to begin our final moment, which was very sentimental. We all sang Landslide by Fleetwood Mac in a circle just reflecting on the trip and how wonderful of memories we have made!

Now they are on the plane back to the United States! To say we are grateful is an understatement. We LOVED getting the privilege to spend time with your children and we will miss them so dearly!

Live in the Moment!

Exploring the Mountains and the Beach!

June 29, 2026

Hi again families! We are having the most wonderful time on our adventure through Croatia, and we are so grateful for you all sending your kids with us for these two weeks. It has been our pleasure getting to spend time with them, and we know the best is yet to come!

We woke up this morning on Rab Island and it was absolutely spectacular – the crisp morning sun, clear blue skies, and warm weather had everyone moving and excited for the day. We cooked up some eggs, sausage, bread, and yogurt to get ready for our sea kayaking adventure today! We headed over to our starting location and assigned our wonderful kayaking teams for the day. It was windy out on the water, which the whole group appreciated in the summer heat. Julia and Lane were speedy in the kayaking boats with our LOD team Sims and Emmet keeping up right behind them. They had Caroline and Jake paddling hard today! The group agreed that this was truly some of the most beautiful water we have seen to date. It is the most crystal blue and clear water with the mountain range right behind it. After some time kayaking, we made it to a beach where we would take a break and eat lunch. Bartley talked to Pauline about Croatian folklore and shared his new knowledge with the group, while Sawyer, Anderson, Jack, and Emmet decided to walk up a hill to a scenic overlook which was well worth it. We swam, tanned, and chatted (and reapplied sunscreen a lot!) before jumping back into the kayaks to begin heading back. About a quarter of the way through, Jake pointed out a perfect swimming spot for the group and everyone jumped in! Scarlett, Alice, and Harris had a GoPro video shoot once they discovered that opening their eyes underwater didn’t hurt too badly. It was the perfect intermission before heading the rest of the way back. Once we unloaded our gear, we decided to get some water and refreshments at a nearby restaurant on the water. The group was quite tired from the long day in the sun, so it was perfect getting to just hangout and recharge. We headed back to the hostel afterwards to shower and get ready to make dinner (tacos!). Our cook crew, Sims, Scarlett, Bartley, and Sawyer absolutely crushed making the tacos and it was a huge hit. While they were cooking, the group played card games outside and kicked around the soccer ball. We wrapped up dinner just in time for the sunset, so we all packed up our items and headed to the beach to watch the sunset. It was truly spectacular and truly the best moonup spot. Our LODs picked Harris and Lane to lead us through the day tomorrow, and we ended the night getting ice cream with the group!

Sims and Julia were up before the group this morning and helped Caroline and Jake wake up the rest of the group with some fun music to get the energy going this morning! Our cook crew made eggs and sausage with yogurt, strawberries, and bananas that the whole group ate before our activity. We had a snorkeling and boat tour on tap for the day, and everyone was so excited for a beautiful day out on the water. Once we arrived, we loaded up onto our boat and we were headed out on the water! Our first spot was a cave that we got to swim into, which was incredible. The water in the cave is freshwater compared to the salty water outside, and we watched bats fly throughout the cave. We then headed to a cliff jumping spot in an awesome cove. Lane was the first one to jump off into the water, and the rest of the boys quickly followed. Anderson, Sawyer, Emmet, and Lane climbed up a hill overlooking the water and got to see an incredible view of the island. Jake quickly ran up to join them at the viewpoint! Jack loved snorkeling and getting to explore all the stopping points… he found cool caves, a lobster, and starfish! After some time out on the water, we headed back to the dock to cut into a delicious watermelon to cool us off from being in the sun. Everyone enjoyed the shade and the snack before we headed back to the beach for the afternoon. We brought out the spikeball net, and Jake, Lane, Anderson, and Sawyer started quite the game. Meanwhile, Caroline introduced the group to a new favorite group game called Shake and Pop. Jack especially loved this game! After an awesome afternoon on the beach, we headed back to the hostel to shower and get ready to cook dinner. Our cook crew team, Alice, Harris, Jack, and Julia helped make chicken, mashed potatoes, and salad for dinner. They absolutely crushed it and everyone loved the meal! We wrapped up dinner and had the group gather their belongings to get ready for our travel day in the morning. Our LODs led us through a wonderful moonup where they picked Jack and Lydia to be our LODs tomorrow!

We had a travel day today, so we woke up the group and had everyone pack up their bags and bring them downstairs before we ate breakfast. Lane helped Caroline and Jake cook up some eggs and sausage before we jumped in the van to head to our next portion of the trip… trekking! Our LODs helped us buy groceries for the next few days while we were in the mountains, and they crushed it!  We got on the ferry to get back on the main island and then drove to our lunch spot. We had a delicious lunch of chicken, calamari, and a traditional dish Cevapi dish, which Anderson was nervous to try and absolutely loved! The group rated the lunch a 10/10, and we continued our journey to the Velebit Mountain hostel. Once we arrived, the group was in awe of how beautiful the terrain was and how lucky we were to be in such a wonderful place. The sky was beaming blue, the mountains were to our left, and the sea was to our right. If we even looked far enough, you can see the coast of Italy! We hiked up to a viewpoint and really took in the view and what our next few days got to look like. Once we returned, we began cooking chicken fried rice for dinner. Scarlett and Bartley helped us make the fan favorite dish, and we ate our dinner right as the sun was setting over the mountain range. The group decided to explore a nearby chapel, and it was truly such a bonding moment for the group. We were so grateful to just have that time together as a whole! We had moonup under the stars of the Northern Velebit Mountain range where our LODs picked Julia and Bartley to be our LODs for our first day of trekking!

We were all grateful to sleep in and have a slower start this morning! Sims and Bartley were up first as the sun was rising and decided to get ahead on cooking the group breakfast. We all enjoyed pancakes with blueberries and strawberries to fuel us up before beginning our hike! We were summiting the Twin Peaks today, a double summit of the two highest mountain ranges in the Northern Velebit. Our LODs got everyone excited through the morning huddle, and Jake read “Man in the Arena” to get everyone motivated to CRUSH our hike. Anderson and Sawyer brought their Tung-Tung-Tung stuffed animal that has become a group mascot. Before we knew it, we were out on the trails. It was a perfectly sunny day outside and the wind helped keep the group cool. Once we reached our first summit, the leaders surprised the group with candy to motivate us through our second summit push. Despite the 2,500 ft in elevation, the group all made it to the top of both peaks. We enjoyed lunch at our second summit, and it was incredibly well-deserved. Once we headed back down, the group enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at the mountain hut. People napped, journaled, hung out with one another before we started making dinner. Scarlett and Harris helped Jake cook up some spaghetti with chicken marinara sauce for dinner. The group absolutely loved the dish. It has become a ritual for the group to hike down to a nearby chapel and all talk with one another, so that was the post-dinner activity. Once the sun had set, we had a wonderful moonup under the stars and our LODs picked Sims and Emmet to be our LODs for our second day of trekking.

The group had another day of sleeping in which was MUCH deserved after our big hike yesterday! Sims and Julia were up first of the group and decided to get a head start on breakfast with Caroline and Jake. We made french toast for breakfast and it got us feeling ready for the day! In our morning huddle, Jake and Caroline read “Direct Orders”, a motivational poem inspiring all our kids to ROCK OUT for the little things in life! We had a big 10-mile trek through the mountains, and our LODs did a great job keeping everyone energized throughout the hike!

Long hikes always seem to lead to the best discussions, and we covered just about every topic under the sun. The hike was challenging, but the views made every step worth it. We stopped for lunch at a cabin at the halfway point on the trek, and lets say we have had some awesome lunch views! Caroline took Julia, Sawyer, Jack, and Anderson up another trail which opened up to a beautiful view. We climbed up a few rocks and we felt like we were on top of the world! We started our trek back, and the overcast weather had the group feeling grateful for the best hiking temperature. We had Emmet leading the front and Sims holding down the back (aka “The Caboose”). We took in the breathtaking views, and with conversations in a flow state, we were back at the hut before we knew it. The group bought some sodas and electrolyte drinks back at the hut and all hung out while enjoying the drinks. We had tacos on the tap for dinner, which our wonderful cook crew, Lane, Alice, and Sawyer helped chef up! It was absolutely delicious, and everyone loved the tacos the second time around. We had the most beautiful sunset, and the group continued their tradition going down to a nearby chapel and hanging out. The full moon quickly illuminated the sky, and we started our last moonup in our beloved mountain hut. Our LODs picked Jack and Scarlett to be our leaders for tomorrow!

Sims– hey fam! I’m having so so much fun! Literally the views are great. Everyone so nice and I’m having a great time!! We’ve been trekking for the past two days. It was so hard lol. Fun Times in Croatia!

June 24, 2026

Hi families! We are settling into Croatia and we are so excited for the upcoming weeks with your kids. It has already been a pleasure getting to know everyone and we know that our adventure together is just getting started.

Everyone arrived at the airport with full smiles and excitement for what is to come! We introduced our group to one another, and our wonderful guide Pauline who will be working with us the next two weeks to navigate us through our adventure! We jumped in the van and headed to our first spot for the trip. Lane and Sawyer did a great job keeping the group morale high through some fun music, despite the long travel day! Lydia and Harris sat up near the front and chatted with Jake and Caroline about all their interests, hobbies, and sports! In the blink of an eye, we were halfway through the drive and Caroline ran into the grocery store with Pauline to shop for the next few days. Jake got the group introduced to hacky sack, which Emmet and Anderson were naturals. Meanwhile, Scarlett showed her awesome juggling skills with the soccer ball while we waited! Once they were back, we jumped in the van and headed to the hostel! We were greeted with dinner of a delicious chicken sandwich and fruit which was a huge hit with the group! Everyone loved it and ate till they were full before taking some much desired showers after the long travel day. Once everyone was clean and ready for bed, we introduced Moonup (a Moondance tradition we do every night) to the group. Everyone loved the first Moonup, and we elected two LODs (leaders of the day) to help us with our activities tomorrow morning!

Our LODs this morning, Scarlett and Anderson did a wonderful job getting the group excited for our first activity in our morning huddle. After some inspirational thoughts and a big group huddle, they revealed to the kids that the activity of the day would be sea kayaking down the Mrežnica River! We fueled our bodies for our day on the water at breakfast and before we knew it we were back in the van to our activities. We have had the pleasure of making our LODs our designated DJs everyday, so they did an excellent job queuing up some music that the group could sing to get everyone excited for the day. Upon arrival, we had a brief safety overview and then headed into the water. Everyone was in teams of two for the ducky boat kayaks we were in, and we got to go down waterfalls that were almost 10 feet tall! After our first rapid, we approached an awesome cliff jumping spot. Simms was the first one off and Alice shortly followed behind her. Everyone jumped off and had the chance to go multiple times off the slightly higher platforms too! It was definitely a highlight of the day. Once the rapids cleared and we were safe to jump in, Lane and Sawyer quickly decided that it was time to flip everyone’s boats! Scarlett was a sneaky pro boat-flipper, and before we knew it we were all in the water! We had the best time, and after some occasional boat flips, jumping in the water, and floating downstream, we headed back to where we started to eat lunch. Everyone enjoyed the sandwiches we had packed earlier that morning and Pauline introduced the group to some Croatian pop music. Meanwhile, Bartley and Sawyer befriended our lovely van driver for the session, Marco! They chatted with him about the Croatian history and his music taste – which was then revealed on the car ride back! We headed in the van to drive back, and Caroline pulled out her friendship string for everyone to use. It was a hit! Jack learned how to do one of the most challenging bracelet styles to use as croakies for his sunglasses! All the while Sims and Lydia found nail polish, and they decided to give everyone a manicure. It was a much deserved relaxing afternoon and everyone had so much fun just getting to bond and get to know one another. We had dinner or burgers, fries, and a salad, which was quite delicious, but arguably the group’s favorite part were the muffins for dessert! After dinner, Jake got out the guitar and played everyone’s favorite songs like Revival, Landslide, By and By before Moonup. We ended the night with our beloved Moonup under the stars and the LODs picked Julia and Sawyer to be the LODs for tomorrow!

We got to sleep in a bit this morning which had the group feeling extra rested for our wonderful activity today… hiking through Plitvice National Forest! We knew we had a long day coming up, so we ate a filling breakfast and got the energy up through our morning huddle led by Julia and Sawyer! They shared some inspiring words and an inspirational speech had everyone excited in the van. Once we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the top of the beautiful waterfalls in the park. We stopped to take some pictures and admire the first of many spectacular views. We began our hike through the park and everyone had such a fun time getting to see the waterfalls, crystal clear waters, and paths that uniquely shaped the entire park. No words can describe its beauty! About halfway through the hike, we stopped to eat lunch and recharge. Anderson, Emmet, Sawyer, and Bartley found a cave in a waterfall and explored it. They said it was one of their favorite parts of the park! After everyone was hydrated and fueled, we continued our hike till we reached the van to take us home. Some of the group took some much desired naps while others enjoyed listening to some of Marco’s favorite music! Once we got back, the group jumped into a huge spikeball tournament. Scarlett and Lydia won 12 games in a row before Anderson and Lane came back for a re-match to steal the Spikeball Title (They are currently 1-1 and are playing best of 3!). All the spikeball had the group ready for dinner, and we ate a delicious pasta dinner with salad. The whole group loved it! We also had ice cream served in a foldable cone, which Lydia reminded the group of the Chaco Taco Ice Cream which many of us grew up with! We had such a wonderful evening, and we decided to close out the night with some music and Moonup. The group did a duet to “I Remember Everything” by Zach Bryan while the sun was setting, and it was such a beautiful moment. We had Moonup under the stars and the LODs selected Alice and Bartley to be our LODs for our activities tomorrow!

We woke up this morning and packed up our belongings to head to our next destination! We ate some breakfast before jumping on the road and our LODs revealed that we would be heading to Rab Island for the next portion of our trip! We had a long van ride ahead of us, so everyone made sure to get some friendship bracelets ready and a great music queue in the car lined up. We made it to our ferry early, and we were able to catch an earlier ride to the island! Everyone was in awe over the bright blue water, and everyone loved using Julia’s camera to take some pictures. Once we arrived on the island, Alice and Bartley helped Caroline and Jake grocery shop for the next few days. The rest of the group stayed back with Marco, and they played Croatian pop music the whole time! The group is on the way to mastering the lyrics! Once we wrapped up grocery shopping, we headed down to the island town to grab some kebabs, burgers, and chicken for lunch. The group absolutely loved this meal and they decided to grab some gelato afterwards to top it off! We headed down to the beach and after layering up in sunscreen, it was time for a full sprint to the water… literally! Emmet’s GoPro came to good use to film the chicken fights in the water, which Sawyer and Jack dominated. After some time, Scarlett, Lydia, Anderson, and Lane decided it was time for their rematch Spikeball game. Harris and Alice jumped in and out of the spikeball games during their “intermissions” to get in some reps! The group all watched with excitement for the much anticipated game, and Anderson and Lane ended up stealing the title! We wrapped up our lovely afternoon beach day and headed back to the hostel to rinse off before our surprise dinner… we were heading to get pizza at a rooftop restaurant! We had a variety of pizzas including Margarita, Pepperoni, and Hawaiian! We finished dinner just in time for the sunset, and the girls enjoyed a photoshoot on the balcony of our hostel. It was so stunning and such an incredible view! We ended the night with a lovely Moonup in our new location, where the LODs picked Emmet and Sims to lead us along the next part of our adventure!

We can’t wait to touch base with you all again, family and friends! Until next time!

Live in the moment!

– Caroline and Jake
