One Final Farewell!
July 24, 2026
Day 10
We woke up bright and early for our next activity, White Water Rafting!! After a classic Bagel and Oatmeal breakfast, we shipped off to Canadian Outback Rafting. Once we arrived at the farm where they operate, Gigi, Liza Gray, and Brynn quickly ran over to pet the horses and mules after unloading their bags and packing their dry packs up to go on the gear boats! After a quick debrief from our guides, we hit the water.
Our rafting guides were thrilled to have us along and entertained us with jokes along the bus ride to the mouth of the river with Henry even adding some of his own! After splitting into groups and getting our life jackets and helmets on, we began our journey downstream. Along the way we faced class III and IV rapids, including Cheeseball, Steam Roller, and 50/50. Brody, William and Gordon were excited and quickly jumped on the opportunity to ride through some rapids while hanging onto the side of the raft. Caroline and Brynn each took turns riding the helms of their rafts. Piper, Ness, Henry, and Libby joined in a fierce splashing war as the two boats of kids entered more gentle water. Both boats enjoyed a dip in the glacial streams, with Ben Raj and the kids teaming up to push a protesting Harris in!
After reaching camp on the island, we changed out of our wetsuits and helped around camp! Piper and Gigi helped our guides with meal prep while Henry, Brody, Gordon, and Cort enjoyed conversation with our guides in the “living room”. Liza Gray and Caroline enjoyed a peaceful bracelet making session on the sand, while Libby and Brynn took pictures on the stunning rock beach! William and Ness joined Ben throwing the football nearby. As we had a delicious dinner of pork loin, salmon, potatoes, bread pudding, and salad, we enjoyed a lovely moonup with our rafting guides before sleeping under the stars!
Day 11
We woke up on the island to the delicious smell of bacon and French toast. After a tasty breakfast, we packed up camp and got ready to head back to our rafts for a sunny morning ride as the gentle current swept us to our pickup location. Along the way, Caroline and Brody led a sunbathing session on the rafts as Raj played some relaxing music for the group. After Brynn and Cort, our LODs, led the group to pack up our gear, we headed back home! We decided to surprise the group with an Ice cream stop! There, the kids got some of the biggest scoops of ice cream they’d ever seen and we enjoyed some leisure time at a nearby park! Gordon thoroughly enjoyed his unique mint and cookie dough combo, while Piper enjoyed her strawberry vanilla medley. Liza Gray and Gigi had a great time on the playground zip line as Raj pushed them along. We decided to end the day with a delicious grill out! While Ben led grilling efforts as he made everyone burgers, Raj and Harris made Mac and cheese to pair with. The kid enjoyed what many called their favorite dinner before a high energy moonup! As the sun set, the kids enjoyed some free time playing football, soccer, and spike ball.
Day 12
The kids woke up to the delicious smell of eggs and bacon as the leaders prepared breakfast burritos!! After prepping with water and lunch, we headed out for our final activity: a hike! With the extreme heat (in the 90s!) the leaders decided to stick to a shorter hike with an equally beautiful view. Brody, Cort, and William brought up the front of the line as we reached the peak. There, the group took pictures while we enjoyed our lunches and a small candy treat for reaching the top! As we headed down, the kids were filled with dread as they believed that they were headed to a second hike at the steep Chiefs trail. Convinced that they were stopping for water, the van erupted in cheers when we announced there was no second hike and promptly treated them to root beer floats at A&W! Next up, we revealed our evening activity: Iron Chef! Our LODs, Ness and Liza Gray, selected their teams in a draft and were tasked with creating a 3 course meal with their teams for their judges.
After planning with their teams, the two were tasked with shopping for their meals, with a preassigned budget. For their meals, team Wet Bananas (captained by Ness) prepared cheese fries, sliders, and a twist on smores. On the opposing side, team Cheeseburger Please (captained by Liza Gray)procured grilled cheese and tomato soup, cheeseburger salad, and ice cream/cookie sandwiches for dessert. The leaders and kids thoroughly enjoyed the friendly fun of the competition. Ultimately, the winners were declared: team Cheeseburger Please. Both teams put up a very close race. To round up our evening, we held our moon up and prepared for the final journey home tomorrow!
Day 13
We woke up on our final morning in Canada with one last taste of Tim Hortons after our morning oatmeal! Each student enjoyed a delicious donut along with more treats before setting off on the journey back to the United States. As always, the drive was filled with great conversations, lots of laughter, reflections on the incredible memories we’d made over the past two weeks, and, of course… gas station snacks! Libby and Brynn enjoyed some Jamba Juice smoothies, while Henry, Ness, and Cort enjoyed their selection of candy. As we approached the border, we had to say goodbye to Canada and unfortunately, to many of the dairy products and fresh fruit the kids hadn’t quite finished. Thankfully, the border crossing was quick and seamless, and before long we were officially back in the United States. Right across the border, the students were given one important responsibility: deciding where they wanted to have their banquet dinner. After much debate, the kids selected a favorite: Panera Bread!! We pulled into a Goodwill where the kids were able to grab some funky clothes for their banquet dinner. The girls went for a “Nantucket Lacrosse Boy” theme, while the boys opted for silly clothes. Dinner was a blast! At Panera bread, the kids enjoyed dinners with their favorite soups and sandwiches, and of course classic pastries and cookies.
As the evening came to a close, it was time for our final Moonup. Gordon and Gigi served as the Leaders of the Day. The leaders each shared a quote that had become meaningful to us before asking the students to participate in one final reflection together. Everyone shared a quality they admired about the person sitting to their right. It was incredibly special to hear the kindness, gratitude, and appreciation that each student had developed for one another over the course of the trip. Then we had some beautiful group questions. The honesty, maturity, vulnerability, and compassion that your children showed during this conversation was beyond anything we could have expected. We thoroughly enjoyed reflecting on just how much this group had grown together. We ended our final Moonup with one big group hug. It was the perfect way to close out an unforgettable evening. But the night still wasn’t over. Knowing that our airport departure would come far too quickly, the students decided they wanted to spend every possible minute together. They pulled all of their sleeping pads and sleeping bags into one giant island and stayed up talking, laughing, telling stories, and soaking up every last second of the friendships they had built over the past two weeks. It was a beautiful reminder that while this trip may have been coming to an end, the friendships formed here are only just beginning.
Day 14
Before we knew it, our final morning had arrived. Saying goodbye to your children was one of the hardest parts of this entire experience. As we made the extremely early morning (2:30am) drive to the airport, there were plenty of tears, both from the students and from us, as we sang along to many of the songs that had become the soundtrack to our adventure. As we walked through the airport and prepared to send students off to their gates with their leaders, we made sure each of them knew just how much of an impact they had made, not only on one another, but on the three of us as well. Over the course of this adventure, twelve strangers truly became a family. At just 13 (and 14!) years old, it takes tremendous courage to travel to another country, live outside for two weeks, sleep in tents, paddle freezing rivers, climb mountains, cook meals together, and spend every day surrounded by people who were complete strangers just two weeks earlier. Your children embraced every challenge with resilience, positivity, and an openness to every new experience. In fact, we can count on one hand the number of complaints we heard over the course of the entire trip, a remarkable testament to the character, resilience, and attitudes that each of them brought with them. That speaks volumes not only about who they are, but also about the incredible families who raised them. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for trusting us with your children and for raising such thoughtful, adventurous, kind, and compassionate young people. It has truly been one of the greatest privileges of our summer to get to know each of them. We are unbelievably proud of every single one of them and cannot wait to see all that they accomplish in the years ahead. Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of their story.

Starting Strong in Canada!!

Hiiiiiiiiiii BCO families!!!!!!
We are having an absolute BLAST across the border!! Since you last heard from us, we’ve been rock climbing, rappelling, surfing, AND stand-up paddleboarding!!!!! These kids are incredible, and we’ve all been having so much fun exploring Canada together!
Day 5
Gooooooddddddmmmmooooorrrrnniiiinnnnggggg!!!
We woke the kids up with an all-American breakfast of eggs, bacon, and English muffins. YUM! It was a quick morning at Cumberland Lake Campground because we had to get ready for rock climbing! The kids were excited (and maybe just a little nervous) to see if they could conquer the walls. After meeting our guides, getting fitted with helmets and harnesses, and hiking out to the climbing area, it was finally time to climb! The kids were absolute naturals—belaying like pros and fearlessly scaling the walls. At first, Libby was very hesitant about both climbing and rappelling, but she conquered her fears and absolutely crushed it! We were so proud to see her step outside of her comfort zone. Piper was the first person to make it up the hardest route of the day, showing everyone exactly how it was done. Not far behind her was Brody, who seemed like a natural climber and tackled every route with ease. Climbing can be physically demanding, but Caroline’s constant encouragement and textbook belaying skills made it so much easier for everyone around her. Brynn and Gigi confidently climbed one of the more difficult routes and were immediately ready for another challenge. Whenever Cort wasn’t climbing himself, he was helping others by explaining thoughtful hand and foot placements on the rock. Ness and William gained confidence with every climb and were excited to keep improving the next day. And while Henry loved climbing, his favorite part may have been swinging side to side while hanging from the wall! After an awesome day on the rocks, we packed everything up and headed back to the parking lot. Since the kids had been such incredible climbers, we surprised them with a little town day in Cumberland! Our first stop was Love’s Ice Cream, where everyone enjoyed their famous fresh berry ice cream served over vanilla ice cream. Afterwards, the girls wandered through the doughnut shop admiring all the pastries while the boys explored some of the other local shops. Eventually, our town adventure came to an end, and we loaded up the vans to head back to camp. After showers, everyone made their own pita pizzas! Ben, Harris, and Raj introduced the kids to one of their favorite topping combinations—chili flakes and honey—and a surprising number of campers became instant fans. After dinner, Cort and William threw a Frisbee around while showing off some impressive tricks. Ness, Ben, Brody, and Piper kicked a soccer ball around, while Henry and Gordon showed off their pitching skills. Later, Harris and Ben challenged Henry and Gordon to a spikeball match… and absolutely DEMOLISHED them. Meanwhile, the girls were fully committed to making friendship bracelets while listening to music and hanging out together. To wrap up the night, we rushed down to the beach to watch the sunset before an awesome Moonup. Then it was off to bed after another unforgettable day!
Day 6
Another day of rock climbing and rappelling awaited us! Since we had a travel day ahead, the morning moved quickly. We packed up camp, made lunches, grabbed some bagels and oatmeal, and headed to meet our guides. Once we arrived, half the group started climbing while the other half headed to the rappelling wall. While climbing, Harris made a bet with her group: if anyone could climb the hardest route completely unassisted, they would win Oreos. Henry was fired up about the possibility of earning the prize and carefully warmed up before taking on the challenge. Piper showed incredible determination, attempting the route over and over until she finally reached the top, making her our only Oreo champion of the day! Liza Gray constantly encouraged everyone around her, patiently belaying and helping her friends while still finding plenty of time to crush the climbs herself. William refused to quit, even when rain made the rocks slippery. He kept pushing until he reached the top. Gordon approached every climb with patience and precision, carefully choosing each handhold and foothold along the way. Rappelling brought even more excitement. Gigi, who had been too nervous to rappel the day before, completely conquered her fears and went down the tallest wall THREE TIMES!!! Every camper absolutely loved rappelling and kept lining up to do it again and again. Henry continued to be one of everyone’s biggest cheerleaders, encouraging his friends as they stepped over the edge. Libby and Liza Gray fearlessly leaned back over the cliff and made quick work of the descent. After their turns, Brynn, Piper, and Caroline spent time hanging out with Raj, swapping stories and chatting while cheering on the rest of the group. After another fantastic day on the rocks, we loaded up the vans and began our long drive to Tofino. Ness and Brody kept everyone entertained as our all-star DJs, with Brynn and Gordon occasionally adding their own song requests. We arrived at camp just in time to settle in before bed, so Harris whipped up some delicious cheeseburger quesadillas for dinner. Then our awesome LODs, Gordon and Gigi, led us in a hilarious Moonup before everyone crawled into their sleeping bags. We hit the hay early so we’d be rested and ready for our next adventure… SURFING!!!
Day 7
We woke up excited to hit the waves! The kids enjoyed a morning breakfast of M&M pancakes. Once we got ready for the day, we headed to the beach for our first activity, stand up paddle boarding! We learned how to put on wetsuits, with Brody and Gigi helping everyone else through the process! We hit the waves with a relay race, boys versus girls. It was a nail biter but ultimately, our girls led by Caroline and Libby took away the victory. We then headed out onto the waves for a nice session of paddleboarding around the rock islands nearby. Harris and the girls branched off to lay down on a paddleboard floating island while the boys continued to explore the area! We then played gladiator as a group. Ben challenged Ness to a duel to start off the action, with Brody and Cort battling Raj. Before we knew it, the entire group was in an all out war! We ended our session toppling Harris off her paddleboard. Nobody was left dry. After a brief lunch, we headed over to Cox beach for a surfing session! We learned the basics of surfing, and hit the waves! Caroline and Liza Gray caught a ton of waves together, cheered on by Gigi who was super enthusiastic about being in the water. Cort and William gained confidence as they stood up for the first time! Meanwhile, Piper and Raj were well past the break and catching big green waves together. After we finished our session we toweled off and got ready for another treat: town day in Tofino! The girls explored nearby shops and got silly night gowns, freeze-dried fruit, and ice cream. Meanwhile, the boys explored the surf shops and grabbed some souvenirs to take home. We then told the kids of one more surprise: dinner in town at Tacofino, a famous taco restaurant! Henry and Gordon enjoyed burritos, while Libby and Liza Gray enjoyed fish and chicken tacos. Bellies full, we headed back to camp and settled in for our Moonup led by Ness and Libby. Off to bed after that in preparation for a busy next day!
Day 8
We woke up and got right on the move for a busy day! After a breakfast of oatmeal and bagels, we headed straight to our morning surf session. Today, the kids’ confidence shined through, as Brynn, Brody, and Gordon joined Ben in venturing beyond the white water to try and catch a wave before it crashed! Meanwhile, Piper tried a shortboard as a challenge after she mastered her longboard. We then headed to stand up paddleboarding, where the group played a few beach games and then took some time to lay down and enjoy the rays out on the calm sea. We enjoyed the beautiful coastline again as we ate our lunches and bade Tofino goodbye. After hitting the road, the kids were thrilled to be treated to a gas station stop where they grabbed a snack and we continued through the beautiful Canadian countryside to Little Qualicum Falls, where we set up camp. For dinner, the kids enjoyed a delicious stir-fry dinner, cooked in part by Cort, Liza Gray, and Brynn as the leaders’ helpers! Ending our night with a Moonup led by William and Caroline, the kids were off to bed for their last night on Vancouver island after a long and busy day!
Day 9
We woke up the next morning and wrapped up our camp for a travel day before our next activity, white water rafting! As we said our goodbyes to Vancouver island, the anticipation was high for the world cup final. Once we boarded the ferry, the boys got to watch the match with a large crowd on the ferry, while the girls enjoyed ice cream and the sunshine on the viewing deck! We’re reaching the beginning of the end of our magical journey and are cherishing every last memory with your kids! We can’t wait to enjoy our last few activities and days together!

Cort – Hola padres, this trip has been very fun and unique in a good way. There are some days with lots of driving and some ferries, but most are filled with activities in the nature of Canada. The ferries are one of the best parts by the way. So far my favorite activity that we have done was fishing. This is the result of having the biggest boat out of all the groups, 2 dogs onboard the boat belonging to the captain, getting to jump off the roof of the boat into the ocean, and lots of large fish. It’s been great fun and I am thankful for the opportunity to be able to do it.Sincerely,Cort

Pancakes + Peaks!

Hellllooooo BCO Fams!!!!
We are having an ABSOLUTE BLAST across the border! Even though it feels like you just dropped your kiddos off at the airport, we’ve already packed so many adventures into the first few days. The laughs have been nonstop, the views have been unbelievable, and this crew has jumped into every new experience with so much enthusiasm. Here’s a little peek into what we’ve been up to!
Day 1: Let the Adventure Begin!
Airport day was filled with excitement, anticipation, and just a few butterflies as everyone gathered together and got to know one another. There was plenty of small talk, lots of smiles, and the beginning of what we know will be some awesome friendships.
Once our whole crew had arrived, we buckled up and hit the road toward our very first campsite! As soon as we pulled in, everyone’s jaws dropped. The kids couldn’t believe how beautiful it was! Caroline especially couldn’t get enough of the mountain views and the gorgeous sunset that welcomed us to Canada.
After settling in, we enjoyed some delicious pizza, learned the ropes of setting up our tents, and spent the evening getting excited for everything ahead. Since we had a big travel day planned for the morning, everyone happily crawled into their sleeping bags and got some well-earned rest.
Day 2: Canada, Here We Come!
We kicked off the morning with chocolate milk and muffins to fuel up for a long day of traveling. Once we loaded into the vans, the music started immediately! Ness and Brody quickly earned the title of our group’s official DJs, keeping the energy high with hit after hit. We don’t think another car ride will ever quite compare!
WOOOOHOOOO…we made it into Canada!!
Everyone did an awesome job at the border, and crossing into Canada made the adventure feel very real. A few hours later came another first for many of the kids-we drove onto a ferry! Watching the cars board the boat was fascinating, and everyone was amazed by how the whole operation worked.
Gigi, Caroline, and Liza Gray had a blast exploring the ferry, grabbing soft serve ice cream, and checking out the little shops on board. Meanwhile, William and Cort claimed the top deck, soaking in the sunshine and taking in the incredible mountain and ocean views stretching in every direction.
As fun as the ferry was, our adventure wasn’t over yet! We hopped back in the vans and headed toward Miracle Beach.
Tonight’s wonderful Leaders of the Day, Brody and Caroline, helped cook a delicious dinner of marinara pasta with chicken-YUM! After dinner, we relaxed in our Crazy Creeks, swapping stories and enjoying plenty of laughs together.
For Moonup, we wandered down to the beach and were greeted with one of the most breathtaking sunsets we’ve ever seen. Between the glowing sky, towering mountains, peaceful water, and endless rock skipping, it was hard to imagine a better way to end the day. After lots of laughter, exploring, and soaking in the scenery, we headed off to bed. Day 2 left almost no downtime, but every minute was filled with adventure!
Day 3: Chinese Mountain
Pancakes!!!
The morning started with one of everyone’s favorite breakfasts. The crew helped make and customize their own pancakes before heading off to Quadra Island for a day of hiking and fishing. Gigi absolutely crushed it as our pancake chef, flipping pancakes like a pro while everyone loaded theirs up with M&Ms, chocolate chips, and plenty of other sweet toppings.
After filling up, we packed lunches, loaded the vans, and set off for the day’s adventure.
Our destination: Chinese Mountain!
For Harris, Ben, and Raj, this was actually the first time they’d seen the trail without rain! The hike started with a steep climb, but everyone tackled it with determination. Brody and Ness powered up the trail while the rest of the group took in the towering trees, moss-covered forest, and peaceful surroundings.
When we finally reached the top, every bit of effort was worth it.
The view was absolutely breathtaking. Mountains surrounded a lush green valley that stretched all the way to the sparkling ocean. Everyone stood quietly for a moment, taking it all in. William and Cort couldn’t stop talking about how incredible it was, and honestly, we all agreed.
We enjoyed a long lunch at the summit, sharing stories, passing around candy and snacks, and soaking up the sunshine before making our way back down.
The loose gravel inspired Libby, Brynn, and Piper to attempt a “human train” down the trail. While it wasn’t exactly successful, it definitely provided plenty of laughs! We also discovered we have a group of incredibly speedy hikers because we finished with plenty of afternoon left to explore.
On the drive back, we stumbled across a beautiful little cove filled with sailboats and couldn’t resist stopping. Henry, Gordon, Cort, and William immediately started a rock-skipping competition, taking advantage of the perfectly flat stones and calm water. Meanwhile, the rest of the group stretched out on the warm rocks, soaking up the sunshine like little lizards and enjoying a peaceful afternoon by the water.
Back at our beautiful campsite at We Wai Kai, everyone settled in before dinner. Since our campsite sits right on the beach, several people even chose to sleep in their hammocks so they could fall asleep listening to the waves.
Dinner was Harris’ famous chicken and cheese quesadillas, and they absolutely lived up to the hype! Great food, fun music, and even better company made for another unforgettable evening.
After dinner, all of the girls (including Harris 😊) spent time relaxing in the hammocks before Moonup, while the boys got creative by inventing a hilarious baseball game using rolled-up socks. Of course, there was also plenty more rock skipping.
Our amazing Leaders of the Day, Henry and Brynn, wrapped up the evening by leading a beautiful Moonup right on the beach during high tide. With the mountains silhouetted against the evening sky and the waves rolling onto shore, it truly felt like something out of a postcard. William declared it “the best view he’s ever seen,” and we honestly couldn’t disagree.
As we drifted off to sleep with the sound of the ocean beside us, we couldn’t help but feel incredibly lucky. Three amazing days down…and so many more adventures still to come!
Day 4: Fishing!
The kids awoke to a beautiful sunrise along our beach campsite on Quadra Island. We prepared them a delicious breakfast of oatmeal with M&M’s, and it turned out to be quite a treat! Brynn, Libby, and Piper enjoyed a new unexpected favorite breakfast and shared how much they were looking forward to having it again. We went ahead and packed up our bags for the next part of our trip – the fishing expedition! Split into 3 groups we each set out to see who could catch the most fish of the day. Gigi quickly started the day with a giant coho salmon, quickly followed by William, who caught a pretty big salmon of his own. Meanwhile, Henry caught a shark! The kids enjoyed a delicious croissant sandwich on deck while catching some sun. Over on Harris’s boat, Piper, Cort, Gigi, and Henry took a dive into the ocean! Liza Gray and Gordon were very effective, each reeling in a significant amount of fish (even if they weren’t allowed to keep them). The kids were then treated to an ice-cream as we celebrated a successful day out on the water.
After heading back to Vancouver Island on the ferry, we took a quick stop into town for groceries and headed to our next campsite. There, Raj showed the kids how to fillet the fish that we had caught for the day. Brynn and Liza Gray did a great job and cut beautiful pieces for everyone to eat. Caroline, who caught a significant amount of fish also proved herself to be an excellent help in preparing dinner, seasoning our catch. Nearby, Ben played two-touch soccer with Ness and Brody. Gordon and Libby enjoyed their dinner a lot, coming back for seconds! At moonup, the group enjoyed a beautiful sunset as we sang country roads together.
Having the best time!! The kids are bonding so well and we are so impressed with their independence and energy. Thank you for sharing them with us, and we will write to you soon!

I really appreciate it Although seeing beautiful sites fills me with a bit of melancholy as it reminds me of how big the world is, and just how little of it I will get to see. Life is short but y’all are allowing me to live mine to the fullest.
Gigi- hi mom, dad, Leo, and hardy! I am having the best time.we went fishing today and I caught many bug fish. We are filleting them for dinner as we have been cooking all our meals. I have seen some of the best views of my life. I’ve loved the activities and I am very very grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity. I love and miss y’all very much! Brynn- hi mom, Daniel, Riley, and Abby! It is so much fun here with all my new friends. We went fishing today and I caught a bunch of fish and someone in my group even caught a shark. Liza Gray – Hey everyone! It’s been soooo fun! It’s been kind of cold at night. I caught a big salmon today and learned how to filet it! We went on a hike and it was really pretty at the top! The water’s also kind of cold but it’s also really pretty! We saw a BUNCH of sea lions and also saw a whale while we were fishing! I’m really exited for all of our upcoming activities! Miss and love y’all so much!

We heard from our leaders that the group has landed safely in Seattle! The are headed for Canada and we cannot wait to hear more stories from their adventure.
