Fond Farewell!

July 16, 2025

One final Swadeeka from Thailand 2C!

It’s wild to think this adventure has already come to an end. Since our last update, we’ve packed in so many unforgettable memories.

Right after our last update, we dove into our first full day of service. Luke and Watt explained that we’d be working on cementing water tanks for a nearby village to help with water access, and the girls jumped in with full force. We started off by mixing up wet concrete to seal the tanks, and the group picked it up like pros. Eloise and Peyton were absolute stars with the layering and Watt even said they were working like locals. We blasted music while we worked and Haddy crushed it with the playlist once again. After a full day of hard work, we headed back to camp where we kicked back with books and rounds of Skipbo. Luke and Watt cooked us an amazing homemade dinner, and the night ended with a hilarious dance party. Charlotte led us in a ridiculous interpretive dance game that had everyone cracking up. Milena, Eloise, Harper, Georgie, Macy, Ben, and Riley were all trying to keep up and couldn’t stop laughing. We wrapped up the night with a meaningful Moonup.

The next morning brought even more service, and even though there wasn’t much left to do, the girls were fully dialed in. No one wanted to take a lunch break, they just wanted to finish strong. Concrete was flying, music was blasting, and the energy was high. We got the tanks done in no time and then painted them with a white topcoat. That afternoon, Watt took us to Mae Win Waterfall. The hike in was gorgeous with rain behind us and sunlight cutting through the hills. When we got there, it was absolutely stunning. Everyone hopped in to splash around. Georgie, Ben, and Milena even jumped in by the falls and floated down the creek. Afterward, we grabbed smoothies and snacks and soaked in the views on the hike out. Back at camp, we spent the afternoon relaxing, playing more Skipbo (Stella went on a three-win streak), and just enjoying the beauty around us. At sunset, we all spontaneously took off for a sunset walk. The sky turned pink and purple over the rice fields and it felt like magic. At one point, Milena took a tumble straight into the rice paddies and came out covered in mud, which had us all crying laughing. Sweet Harper helped pull her out like a true hero. That night, we wrapped things up with Moonup and the most ridiculous round of our game Pookie which had everyone completely losing it.

The next morning, we returned to the worksite one last time to leave our mark. Everyone painted their names, hometowns, and little drawings on the tanks, and Peyton painted a giant Moondance logo right in the center. It was so cool knowing our names would stay a part of something meaningful. Back at camp, a local monk visited and gave us blessing bracelets, such a peaceful and reflective moment that tied in the spiritual side of Thai culture. That night, we feasted on a barbecue meal Ben cooked up on the grill. Then came one final dance party with Beatrice stealing the show with her moves. We closed things out with some emotional bangers like Mirrorball, Landslide, and Rivers and Roads, and our last Moonup was full of gratitude, laughs, and a few tears as we reflected on everything we’d shared.

But the trip still had one last adventure in store – bamboo rafting down the river. It was the perfect way to take in the landscape one final time. Then we made our way back to the Riverside Hotel, explored Chiang Mai, grabbed some sweet treats, and ended with a delicious banquet dinner at Its Good Café. Before heading to the airport, we had to make one final 7/11 stop so the girls could grab all their favorite Thai snacks.

As the girls head home, we’re left with full hearts and so much gratitude. Thailand 2C was pure magic. This group was kind, hilarious, hardworking, and truly leaned into every moment. We’re already missing them like crazy and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things they’ll go on to do.

THAILAND 2C FOREVER!!!

Final Update from Thailand!

July 12, 2025

SWADEKA from Northern Thailand!!! We’re now in a completely different region of Thailand and already having a blast. This part of the country feels so different from the south, but we’ve been loving exploring the culture and getting to experience something new.

We hopped on a flight from Krabi and arrived in Chiang Mai, which has a totally different vibe. After landing, we headed straight to our hotel, which is located right on the river. The city is full of beautiful mountains and is so vibrant. We dropped our bags and immediately set off to explore. We passed by a few temples and some really cute stores. Charlotte and Riley both got adorable tote bags, and Stella picked up some handmade souvenirs. Milena found the cutest stuffed elephant. We ended the night with dinner at a farm-to-table Mediterranean restaurant called Hummus that had amazing, fresh ingredients. After a long travel day, we kept it chill with a few rounds of Uno, hung out in our rooms, had a great Moonup, and then hit the hay.

The next morning we were up early for another day of climbing and rappelling. We drove through the countryside for about an hour until we arrived at Crazy Horse Mountain for our adventure – and yes, it’s called that because the mountain is shaped like a horse. Our awesome climbing guides warmed us up with some fun games and handshakes before we split into two groups.

Ben, Beatrice, Macy, Milena, Georgie, and Harper kicked things off by crawling into some caves, guided by headlamps. There were bats hanging from the ceiling and a rare species only found in Thailand. Our guides explained how the stalagmites in the cave take hundreds of thousands of years to form, and Milena and Harper were especially curious about it. We even took a moment to meditate in the cave, and one of our guides, who used to be a monk, gave us tips on how to be still and present. It was such a peaceful moment.

After exploring the cave, we practiced rappelling and then hiked to our next rappel spot. Riley, Charlotte, Peyton, Haddy, Stella, and Eloise were up first. The rappel was down a 100-foot cave and it was absolutely wild. Eloise was so brave and went first while Ben and Georgie sang songs to cheer everyone on. Then we headed to another rock climbing section. These routes were way tougher than the ones in Krabi, but the girls were up for the challenge. Georgie tried every single one and crushed them. Charlotte showed off her belaying skills and helped everyone make it to the top. Eloise, Peyton, and Milena all reached their climbing goals too.

The next day we had an awesome activity planned. Our first stop was a super local market where we were the only non-Thai people there. Since most of the vendors didn’t speak English, our guides gave the girls a mini Thai language lesson with phrases they’d need to navigate the market. Then the girls split into teams and were given a grocery list for the meal we’d be making later. The list included fish, chicken, herbs, and more. They had a 1,000 baht budget and did so well navigating the market, chatting with locals, and finding ingredients. Stella and Beatrice even picked out a live fish that we used later in our cooking class – it was wild watching them flop around. After the market we grabbed some Thai tea and hopped in tuk tuks that took us to the cooking class.

We arrived at a beautiful home tucked away in the mountains, where we were greeted by six incredible Thai women known as “Mae,” which means mother in Thai. They welcomed us with open arms and helped us prep the ingredients we bought. Everyone was involved and having a blast. Milena was crushing it with her chopping skills, Charlotte and Haddy were grinding herbs in a mortar and pestle, and other girls were picking herbs and washing fruit. It was all hands on deck. The maes taught us traditional cooking techniques like using bamboo shoots and banana leaves. We made an amazing spread of herb chicken and fish, pad thai (which Macy cooked up), sticky rice, and egg pancakes with herbs. It was all absolutely delicious and the girls said it was the best food they’ve had so far. We finished with blue rice, sweet coconut sauce, and fresh mangoes. Harper was so sweet and gave handmade bracelets to all of the maes, and even taught them how to make string bracelets. It was such a special moment. We left with full stomachs and a deeper appreciation for Thai culture. We ended the day with dinner and a trip to the night markets. Chiang Mai’s markets were huge and the girls had so much fun exploring. Eloise, Harper, Georgie, and Milena finally got the 7/11 shirts they’d been waiting for. Stella had a blast picking out trinkets and postcards.

Then came elephant day – something the girls had been looking forward to the entire trip. We were picked up early and started the day with another Thai tea stop. We drove to an elephant sanctuary nestled in the mountains of northern Chiang Mai. First we made “elephant medicine,” which was a mix of banana, salt, rice, and a few other ingredients mashed together and wrapped in banana leaves. Then we walked down to a meadow by the river where the elephants were roaming. The girls got to feed them medicine and sugarcane, and it was incredible. The elephants gently took the food right from our hands with their trunks. Everyone was laughing and smiling nonstop. The elephants even gave us little kisses. Eloise and Beatrice were soaking it all in and taking pictures on their cameras and GoPros.

We had lunch overlooking the mountains and then got ready to swim with the elephants. They came into the river with us, and we got to give them baths. It was truly the coolest experience ever. The girls were grinning from ear to ear. We even played with some local kids and went down a natural rock waterslide while the elephants swam nearby. Watching them graze along the riverside was surreal. After saying goodbye to our new elephant friends, we headed back to our jungle cabins, cleaned up, and ended the night with card games, music, and a delicious dinner. We had an extra funny Moonup and finished the night with a hilarious game.

Today was trek day and it was spectacular. We started early with an amazing breakfast of pancakes, passion fruit, waffles, eggs, and homemade bread – perfect fuel for the hike. Our amazing guides Luke and Watt met us in the morning and gave us the plan for the day. We hiked for an hour through gorgeous hillside trails, soaking in the views and chatting along the way. We made our way down to a waterfall where we ate lunch and swam. It was such a beautiful and peaceful spot. After that we continued hiking through rice paddies and alongside beautiful rivers. Macy and Eloise were up at the front leading! After a few more hours of hiking we arrived at the village, nestled in the mountains. It started pouring rain, so we chilled on the porch, listened to music, and read our books. We ended the night with another delicious dinner and some hilarious interpretive dance games led by Charlotte.

We’re starting to feel a little sad that our time together is winding down, but we still have a few more amazing days ahead!

Update from Thailand!

July 7, 2025

Wow!!! So much has happened over the last few days, and we are truly HAVING THE TIME OF OUR LIVES. We’re officially about halfway through our time together, and the memories we’ve made already feel unreal. It honestly feels like we’ve been together for months with how much we’ve done, and every single day is filled with the coolest experiences. We’re constantly in awe of the beauty around us and how unbelievably special this place is.

After our rock climbing adventures, we jumped right into our next round of activities. We got to sleep in a little the next morning, which was much needed, because we had a huge day ahead. After a big breakfast, we piled into a van and headed deep into the lush jungle of Krabi for an epic hike. Our destination was the Khao Hang Nak trail, one of the most scenic in the area. At the trailhead, we geared up and began our six mile trek.

Almost immediately, we were greeted by waterfalls to our left and steep, challenging hills in front of us. But the girls absolutely crushed it. Eloise, Macy, Beatrice, Charlotte, and Haddy led the pack the entire way with great energy and determination. Make no mistake, this hike was tough. The heat was intense and the climb was no joke, but nobody let it slow them down. Surrounded by wild jungle and tropical sounds, it truly felt like something out of a movie. We kept spirits high with music and constant chatter, and after two hours of steady climbing, we made it to the top. The view was unreal. Jagged mountain peaks stretched for miles and we could see the sea sparkling in the distance. We took pictures, ate lots of Pocky, and just soaked it all in before heading back down. Georgie, Ben, Milena, Harper, and Stella swung on vines like Tarzan and dipped their feet in a magical waterfall pool on the way down. The hike back flew by thanks to good music and even better company. By the time we returned, we were wiped. We recharged with a pool dip, a big lunch, and some much needed naps. That evening, we were still feeling tired, so we grabbed pizza from our favorite spot and had a chill dinner by the pool. We shared slices, had a great Moonup, and were all out like lights shortly after.

The next morning started early because it was time to kick off the diving portion of the trip. With half the group already certified, the rest of us headed to the dive shop to begin training. Milena, Georgie, and Charlotte were paired with Tomas, while Peyton and Haddy trained with Kevin. Both groups had full days ahead, and everyone did great, nailing their skills in the pool.

Then we had the best surprise. Sam from Moondance HQ showed up to join our trip and started his own training in the pool. It was so fun to have him join in. Meanwhile, Eloise, Macy, Stella, Beatrice, and Harper, who are already certified, kicked off the 4th of July back at the hotel with Ben. They hung out by the pool and blasted classic American songs. Eloise did a great job playing DJ. Later, even the certified girls joined a quick pool session to refresh their skills before getting back in the open water. And in a super cool moment, all the open water girls decided to pursue their advanced certification together.

After a full day of training, we went out to celebrate the 4th of July. We headed to the beach just in time for a stunning sunset. Ben, Georgie, and Riley swam in the ocean while the others played soccer and took pictures. And then, the most unexpected and amazing thing happened. Right there in the ocean, a group of young boys put on a full fire show with music and dancing. It felt like fireworks in the form of fire, and it was such a wild and unforgettable 4th of July moment.

The next morning came quickly, and energy was high. We were heading out for our first real dive. We blasted music on the drive to the dock, where a longtail boat brought us to the massive Kon Tiki dive boat. It was beautiful, huge, with two decks, and we were welcomed aboard by the incredible crew. Fresh fruit platters were waiting for us, and the views were unbelievable. The girls and Sam couldn’t believe how blue the water was or how stunning the islands looked in the distance. We broke into dive groups and went over the day’s plans. The weather was perfect, blue skies and calm seas. Milena, Charlotte, Peyton, Haddy, Sam, and Georgie had to set up their own gear for the first time and totally crushed it. Meanwhile, Stella, Eloise, Beatrice, Harper, and Macy got ready for their advanced skills dives.

Once we descended, it felt like we entered another world. The water was insanely clear and we saw so much. Clownfish, lionfish, Moorish idols, colorful coral reefs, and even some rays. After surfacing, we grabbed muffins, relaxed, and then dove again. Our second dive was just as beautiful, and we ended the day with a delicious Thai lunch on the boat. Charlotte and Milena read their books, some of the girls tanned at the front of the boat, and we finished off with a refreshing swim surrounded by islands. Later that day, we chilled back at the hotel pool and then returned to the beach for another sunset swim. Riley, Sam, and Georgie even spotted a rainbow in the pink clouds. Afterwards, we walked over to the Ao Nang Landmark Market. It was packed with food stalls and a great atmosphere. Everyone tried something different and we all ate dinner together at a big table. Some of the girls went shopping, and Stella was super excited about finding cheap basketball jerseys.

The next day started early again with another amazing day of diving. The weather stayed beautiful and the boat vibes were as good as ever. Everyone was tanning, talking, and listening to music out on the front deck. That day was also a big milestone. Every single person became officially PADI certified. It was such a proud and exciting moment. We celebrated on the boat with music and dancing before heading back to the hotel for another pool hang, then got ready for dinner. We went to an awesome Thai spot, then wandered through another market where the girls got ice cream, acai, and other fun treats. We ended the night with a great Moonup and a hilarious game that had everyone laughing.

Today, just the advanced divers headed back out on the boat to finish their certification. The seas started off a little rough but calmed down quickly, and everyone passed. Meanwhile, the rest of the girls stayed in Ao Nang for a beach day. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our friend Sam, who headed back to Nashville, but we were so glad he got to be part of this trip. To end our time in the south, we treated ourselves to Thai teas and local sodas before heading to Jungle Kitchen, our favorite restaurant, for one last dinner here. We sat around the table talking and laughing for hours. After our final Moonup in Krabi, we started packing up for Chiang Mai.

While we’re sad to leave this stunning part of Thailand, we’re beyond excited for what’s next. Every day just keeps getting better, and the bonds we’re building are something really special. We seriously can’t wait to see what the rest of this adventure holds. We are all having an absolute blast.

– Ben + Riley

Let the Good Times Roll!

July 2, 2025

Swadeka from Thailand! Our Thailand adventure is officially underway, and it already feels like we’ve been together forever. From the moment we arrived in Bangkok, this group has had the best energy. Everyone’s been so upbeat, excited, and really leaning into everything. It’s been so fun to watch everyone click so quickly and start making memories right off the bat.

Once we all met up at the airport, we made our way to our hotel, where we’d be spending our first night. The girls got settled into their rooms and then we headed to dinner before having our very first Moonup, our time each night to slow down, reflect, and check in with each other. It went so well and Stella and Peyton were voted our first leaders of the day.

After a much-needed night of sleep following the long travel day, we were up early and ready to hit the ground running for our first full day in Bangkok. We had an amazing breakfast of Phad Thai and fresh fruit (definitely not your typical American breakfast), then got ready for our city tour. We were greeted by our awesome guide Nina and her party bus, complete with karaoke. Obviously, we had to sing a few songs before heading into the city.

Our first stop was the Grand Palace, the old royal residence of Thailand and one of the most beautiful and intricate places any of us had ever seen. The buildings are covered in gold and full of detail, with huge murals and statues reflecting Thailand’s Buddhist traditions. Nina gave us a great tour through the grounds and even brought us to Wat Phra Kaew, where the Emerald Buddha is kept. Haddy was all in, asking Nina tons of questions about the history and temples. It was so cool to see her curiosity spark so many conversations.

After the palace, we checked out a textile and fashion exhibit where we learned about Thai fabrics and design and collected stamps as we walked through the displays. From there, Nina brought us to a super local area across the river where we explored a food market and then sat down for one of our most authentic meals yet. The girls tried a little bit of everything, curries, noodles, Phad Thai, and we wrapped it all up with mango sticky rice, which was a huge hit.

Next, we visited Wat Pho, home of the famous Reclining Buddha, a massive gold Buddha lying on its side that stretches over 150 feet long. Everyone was amazed by the size and detail of the statue and the peaceful vibe of the temple. Right as we were leaving, it started pouring. Since it’s monsoon season, we knew it might happen, but that didn’t stop us. Nina told us to make a run for it, and we all sprinted through the temple grounds back to the bus, absolutely soaked and laughing the whole time. The girls all said it felt like a movie scene.

We ended the day with a chill evening back at the hotel, resting up after a packed and unforgettable first day.

The next morning we were able to sleep in a bit and get ready for our travel day to Krabi Beach. We stopped into a Thai mall before heading to the airport and looked around a bunch of stores.  Everyone was eager to try some matcha too so we made a few stops to check that off the list.

We flew to Krabi and were immediately blown away by our beautiful hotel. Green View Village is surrounded by mountains, and all the girls have amazing rooms with balconies. We had a delicious outdoor Thai meal and got to bed to rest up for another big day. The next morning, we woke up to the view of the mountains and got ready for a day of climbing. We met Jay, our awesome rock climbing guide, and his team, and they led us to our longtail boats for an incredible ride out to the cliffs. The ocean views were unreal. The girls were in awe of the towering limestone mountains rising out of the water. We landed at Railay Beach, a stunning spot surrounded by jungle, sandy shores, and water that looked like blue Gatorade. We walked along the beach before the guides led us through a cave in the jungle with these insane views of the ocean. We climbed through dark tunnels with little pockets of light shining through until we reached a ledge where we’d be rappelling. Eloise was super brave and went first. The rest of the girls followed, and we all met at the bottom with the most insane view of the sea.

Next, we got to climbing. The guides set up two routes, and Peyton was the first up. She crushed it. Georgie and Milena scaled the wall so fast, and Beatrice impressed everyone, especially the guides, with her skill and form. As the others watched, Macy and Eloise spotted a family of dusky langur monkeys jumping through the trees on a nearby cliff. At first, we thought they disappeared, but as we hiked out of the jungle, we ran into the whole group of them, about twenty monkeys, including babies, swinging through the trees above us. It was incredible to watch them in their natural habitat. Stella and Harper were snapping tons of photos with their cameras. Easily one of the biggest highlights of the trip so far.

After that, we headed to a family-style Thai lunch with some great conversation, then spent the afternoon swimming in the ocean before more climbing. The guides set up four new routes with different difficulty levels, and the girls were crushing it. It started raining, but since we were climbing under a cliff, we got to watch the rain fall over the islands while we climbed. It was unreal. Ben and Georgie even swam in the ocean during the rain, and it was so amazing!

After climbing, we rode the longtail boats back in the rain, taking in the moody island views. Once we got back, we were all cold, so we jumped straight into the warm pool at the hotel. It felt amazing. Eloise, Ben, Haddy, and Riley were doing stunts in the pool and having a blast. We ended the day with another delicious Thai dinner. Stella was so excited for her yellow curry and Haddy finally got her Massaman curry. All the girls ordered Thai tea and smoothies. We wrapped things up with 7-Eleven ice cream and Moonup.

The next morning, we woke up early for a second day of climbing. The girls were pumped to get back to Railay, and today’s routes were even higher. Before we started, we all swam in the ocean in the rain and played a big game of Big Booty, a fast-paced number game that had everyone laughing. A tourist even told us we looked like a scene out of High School Musical.Once we got climbing, everyone was killing it. Charlotte and Stella tackled this super hard route that required tons of upper body strength. Peyton did a route with barely any footholds and made it look easy. Georgie scaled the highest route super quickly. Beatrice and Milena were total hype women, cheering everyone on. Meanwhile, Haddy, Eloise, Macy, and Harper had so much fun swimming that they stayed in the water to play games and cheer on the climbers from there. After climbing, we made our way to a secret beach only accessible by hiking through the jungle and caves. It was completely private and so beautiful. The girls said it looked like something out of Avatar or where mermaids would live. The water was unreal. We swam, floated, and just had the best time. Macy and Eloise were having veggie-offs in the water and cracking everyone up. We must’ve stayed there for over an hour just floating and soaking it all in. It honestly felt magical.

We headed back to the hotel, had a great pizza dinner which was a fun break from Thai food, then went to a night market. All the girls got ice cream and there was live music, so naturally we had a dance party. It was such a fun way to end the day.

Tomorrow we’re headed out on a hiking adventure before we start scuba. This group has been so amazing already and we cannot wait to see what’s next.
