Bula once more, wonderful families!
Bula from Fiji – it’s hard to believe our magical two weeks have already come to a close. What a perfect way to wrap up the summer! We’ve shared so many laughs, adventures, and once-in-a-lifetime moments with your incredible young people. Thank you for trusting us with them – it’s been an absolute honor.
When we last checked in, we had just finished our unforgettable village homestay. But the adventures didn’t stop there! We headed straight into the rainforest for a wild day of white river rafting – and wow, was it an experience. Imagine floating (and occasionally flying) down a river so scenic it’s been featured in movies like Anaconda 2. Now add a nonstop, four-hour water fight and you’ll get a sense of how much fun we had.
Let’s just say: no one stayed dry.Thomas took the rafting mayhem to another level – not only did he tackle Marga into the river, but a few others along the way too! Jack led the charge on his raft’s defense squad, battling off sneak attacks with pure determination. McCall was the only one who managed to stay in her raft the whole time – we’re still not sure how she pulled that off, but the rest of us were very soggy and very impressed.
That evening, we dried off just in time for an epic dance competition at Crusoe’s Retreat with the other resort guests. We’re proud to say that Byrne and Caroline absolutely stole the show. Their energy, commitment, and total lack of embarrassment had everyone cheering. (This would not be their last victory of the week…)
The next morning, we swapped rivers for waves and headed out for our first day of surfing. With the ocean stretching out in front of us and the sun high above, it was the ultimate tropical dream.Savy was a total natural – she popped up on every wave like she’d been surfing for years. Jackson also crushed it on day two, catching wave after wave with confidence and style. Hadley kept the vibe high, making sure no one ever felt left out and reminding us all that a smile and a little encouragement can go a long way. Adelaide came in clutch on our final morning, lifting the whole group’s energy when we were running on low – her enthusiasm made our last surf session one to remember.
Stella continued to be the MVP of all things games – from spikeball to volleyball, she was always down to jump in and play (and usually win). Mary Margaret made those long van rides fly by with the best music requests – seriously, she set the soundtrack to our entire trip.
And Foster? He had us laughing nonstop. Whether it was a clever one-liner or a perfectly timed observation, he kept spirits high wherever we went. Oh – and did we mention the musical chairs tournament? Fierce competition, serious strategy, andβ¦ a repeat champion. Yep, Byrne came out on top again! We might have a future game-show champ in our midst.
This morning we zipped up our bags, took one last look at the turquoise ocean, and made our way to the airport. It’s hard to put into words just how special this trip was. From villages and waterfalls to beaches and boats, every single moment was made better by this incredible group of travelers. They supported one another, tried new things, and fully embraced the spirit of Fiji.
Thank you again for sharing your amazing kids with us. We’re headed home with full hearts, salty hair, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Bula again, wonderful parents!
We’re writing to you from the breathtaking beaches of Navutulevu, where the ocean breeze is warm and the smiles are even warmer. Yesterday, we wrapped up the village section of our trip, and it’s safe to say it was one of the most unforgettable experiences of our lives. From the deeply rooted traditions to the rich sense of community and generosity, every moment was filled with learning, laughter, and awe.
This morning, we packed up our bags and waved goodbye to our new friends in the village as we made our way to Pacific Harbor, where our next big adventure awaits-whitewater rafting between a stunning tropical valley. Spirits are high, and helmets are packed-everyone is ready to take on the rapids! And can you believe it? Just when we think the sights couldn’t possibly get more beautiful, Fiji proves us wrong again and again.
Let’s rewind a bit, because our days in the villages were packed with special moments and memories.
Our first welcome into Draiba village was marked by a traditional kava ceremony-an important ritual in Fijian culture. Foster was completely fascinated by how the root of the yaqona (kava plant) is ground down and turned into the ceremonial drink. He asked great questions and truly soaked in the cultural depth of the tradition.
The next morning, we had the honor of joining a Seventh-day Adventist church service with the local villagers. Sitting alongside the community, we experienced the energy and faith that fills the small church with song and praise. Hadley stood in awe at the children’s choir-their passion and harmony filled the space with something indescribably special.
That afternoon, we were lucky enough to catch a local rugby match between two rival village clubs. It was intense, fast-paced, and full of heart. Byrne had us all laughing when he narrowly avoided a flying tackle-ducking just in time as a player tumbled out of bounds and nearly into his lap!
Dinner that night? A feast! It was a delicious cultural spread. Jackson, never one to back down from a challenge, entered an impromptu eating contest with one of our Fijian guides. It was a tight race, and let’s just say both competitors left very full.
The next morning, we loaded into kayaks and paddled our way down the river to the village of Tuvu. With every stroke, we passed lush landscapes and friendly waves from villagers on the banks. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a group of smiling locals who immediately made us feel at home.
Adelaide shone during the kayaking trip-always paddling up front with Jack beside her, keeping pace with the guide like a pro. It was impressive how they navigated the waters with ease and enthusiasm.
That evening, we played games and shared stories under the stars. Jack became quite the carrom board expert, quickly mastering the skill of flicking those little wooden discs into corner pockets like a Fijian local.
Thomas, with his adventurous spirit, pulled out his ball-shaped sleeping bag liner, which quickly became a rugby ball substitute. The village boys loved it-and soon enough, they were showing him how to spiral it like a pro.
Stella bravely led the charge when it came to trying new foods. Her openness inspired others to taste and explore everything the Fijian kitchen had to offer.
Mary Margaret and McCall were an absolute joy to watch. The two of them practically had a baby or toddler in their arms at all times. They connected deeply with the village children, turning every spare moment into a game, a song, or a shared smile.
Caroline had a beautiful moment during our stay in Tuvu, when she connected with a group of teenagers from the village. Despite living worlds apart, they found common ground in music, school stories, and aspirations. It was a powerful reminder of how much we all share, no matter where we’re from.
Before we left, we hiked to one of Fiji’s largest caves-an ancient and sacred place once used for shelter and protection. Savy was completely captivated by the history, especially learning how over 300 people once hid inside during a time of conflict in the late 1800s. The sheer size and cool darkness of the cave gave all of us chills-in the best way.
Every day on this trip has been filled with growth, curiosity, and joy. Your incredible young people continue to impress us with their adaptability, kindness, and eagerness to learn from this amazing culture. From paddling through remote rivers to singing with villagers and diving into local history, they are doing more than just seeing Fiji-they’re living it.
Stay tuned for our next update-we’ll have stories from the rapids, maybe a few soaked shoes, and definitely more unforgettable memories to share.
Vinaka vakalevu (thank you so much) for sharing these wonderful kids with us.

Bula family and friends!
We can’t believe it’s already been a week since you dropped your incredible kids off at the airport-it feels like it flew by! So much has happened since then, and we’re so excited to give you a full update on all the fun, learning, bonding, and adventures we’ve been experiencing here in paradise.
We began our trip in the lush and vibrant area of Pacific Harbor, staying at the cozy and welcoming Club Oceanus. It didn’t take long for the group to start feeling like family. On our very first full day, we set out on an unforgettable sailboat cruise. The ocean was that perfect Fijian shade of turquoise, and as we glided across the water, we snorkeled in stunning coral reefs full of vibrant marine life. For many, this was their first time snorkeling in the open ocean, and the excitement was contagious. It was the perfect way to kick off our journey.
Shortly after, we began the scuba diving portion of the trip, and WOW-what a week it has been! The underwater world of Fiji is nothing short of magical. We explored thriving reefs, swam alongside colorful fish, and even saw some bigger marine life (don’t worry-only the exciting kind!). A massive congratulations is in order for Caroline, Jack, Thomas, and Jackson, who successfully earned their Advanced Open Water Scuba Certifications! Their confidence and composure underwater were so impressive, and they were even lucky enough to spot a white tip reef shark during one of their dives-such a cool moment that they’ll remember forever!
Back on land, the fun didn’t stop. We’ve had beach days filled with games, music, and laughter. One of the group highlights was our epic spikeball tournament on the sand, where Stella absolutely dominated the competition. She’s hands down the spikeball MVP-if you want to win, she’s the one you want on your team.
We also hosted a boys vs. girls cook-off challenge, which turned out to be both delicious and hilarious. The girls’ team was led by Mary Margaret and Savy, who took their role as head chefs very seriously and whipped up the most amazing ramen noodle bowls, complete with thoughtful presentation and flavor combinations. The boys gave it their all, but the judges (us leaders) had to hand the win to the girls this time-though we’re pretty sure everyone won by getting to taste the results.
Adelaide has been keeping the entire group smiling and laughing with her quick wit and infectious sense of humor. She brings so much light to our days and always knows how to lift the energy when we need it. Hadley has shown such an open heart and deep curiosity about Fijian culture-she’s asked thoughtful questions and shown so much enthusiasm. We know she is going to absolutely thrive in the next part of our adventure.
McCall has been another bright light, bringing team spirit and positivity wherever she goes. She was a key player during our volleyball tournament on the beach, and she’s constantly cheering others on and making sure everyone feels included. Byrne and Foster have been the unofficial DJs of the trip-curating the perfect soundtrack for every moment. Whether we’re driving along the coast, playing cards in the evening, or just hanging out, their music picks have created the perfect vibe.
The bonds forming between everyone are so special to witness. Whether it’s laughing together during games, supporting each other during challenging moments, or sharing reflections at the end of the day, this group is already becoming a tight-knit family.
Now, we’re preparing to head into one of the most meaningful sections of our adventure: our village stay. We’ll be immersing ourselves in Fijian culture by staying with host families, participating in traditional ceremonies, and learning directly from the community about their way of life. It’s a transformative experience that often becomes the heart of the entire trip. From cooking traditional meals to learning dances, farming, and sitting around the kava circle, the upcoming days will be full of connection and cultural appreciation. We know the kids are ready and excited to learn, grow, and give back.
Thank you again for sharing your incredible young people with us. They are kind, funny, thoughtful, and endlessly adventurous. You should be so proud of them-they’ve already accomplished so much in just a short time. We’ll check back in soon with more updates, but for now, please know that all is well, and we are having the absolute best time!
