Sam Lanier, 21, grew up in Augusta, Georgia and is a junior at the University of Georgia studying Fisheries & Wildlife Management. Sam was a Moondance student on Kilimanjaro in 2019, and remembers everything like it was yesterday! His leaders, his group, and his experiences made him want to become a Moondance leader. While at UGA, Sam was elected the president of the 5 Rivers Club, spent a summer working at 320 Guest Ranch, and explored as much fly fishing as he could around Athens! Sam is energetic, experienced, and ready to make some laughs this summer!
Elle Young, 22, is from Austin, Texas and just finished her senior year at Washington and Lee University where she studied Business Administration and Creative Writing. While in Lexington, Elle was involved in an array of organizations outside of the classroom, including serving as a Student Assistant to the W&L Office of Alumni Engagement, a volunteer tutor with the Youth Literacy Program of Rockbridge County, and she was an active member of the Outing Club! She worked as a camp counselor at Camp Longhorn for three summers and has led W&L’s pre-orientation Appalachian Adventure—a five-day backpacking trip for incoming freshmen—since 2020. Elle has an easy-going, hilarious, and confident personality that will allow her to seamlessly connect with all of her students this summer and we can’t wait to see the incredible impact she will have on all of them as a Trip Leader. Welcome to the Moondance Family, Elle!
