"He was confident and proud of what he’d been able to do there and happy to have new friends and new memories. Seeing another part of the world opened his mind to new ideas and dreams.”
-Catherine Peyton, mother of Danny Hahn, Wonder Lake, IL

The diverse cultures, landscapes, outdoor activities, wildlife, and history of South Africa provide us with the ultimate adventure destination. Navigate through the whitewater rapids of Swaziland – an unbelievably easy going country. Roam through the warm stretch of land that is known as “real Africa” - Big 5 Kruger National Park. This wildlife spectacle attracts travelers worldwide for the unrivaled bio-diversity. Gain rewarding travel experience (plus a few new stamps in your passport!!) and arrive home with new visions and perspectives from your adventure into a faraway culture. This expedition invites you experience and understand the people, wildlife, and history of a truly spectacular country. Get your passport out and ready to go on one of the most authentic journeys of your life.

Whitewater Raft – Swaziland

Get ready for the ride of your life through the whitewater of South Africa. Spend a few days observing the shore show of wildlife from your raft as you navigate the rapids of Swaziland. By night, sleep under the blanket of a sky so bright with stars you won’t want to close your eyes.

Kayak – Umzimyubu River

Splash through the world renowned Umzimyubu River in your kayak. This is the place to learn how to handle a kayak, build your paddling skills, and negotiate African rapids. Each night park your kayak and enjoy the open bush where you will cook traditional South African backcountry meals. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the stars as your guides tell fascinating stories of life on the river. An extraordinary landscape such as the Umzimyubu can only be explored by kayak.

Hike – Big 5 Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park covers over 2 million hectors of South Africa and boasts an unrivaled natural bio-diversity of both plant and animal life. Hike through this section of “real Africa” spotting anything and everything from lions and pumas to one of the 507 species of birds. Climb deep into the Sudwala caves to breath a mysterious flow of fresh air while uncovering cultural treasures between stalagmites and stalactites.

Cross borders throughout South Africa

Develop an understanding of the world of international travel as you traverse the southern tip of the continent. The history, archeology, geography, botany, biology, cuisine, and culture of South Africa will astound you. However, after three weeks you will undoubtedly feel at home due to the welcoming nature of the South Africans who more than willingly invite you into their homes to understand their diverse cultures and customs. Spend time in Cuiro shopping, visit the famed Apartheid museum, and view animals in their natural habitat. Take a scenic drive along the Garden Route and then tour through the canopy on a ropes course. After getting down and out of the trees we will head to the Zulu culture village. There is no better way to get to know a country than to get to know its people. This cultural experience will highlight your South African adventure as we will spend time cooking native dishes, learning Zulu games, and helping out in local schools.

Community Service - Make a difference in a different country

Get up close and personal with a variety of native animals at an animal rehabilitation center. We will spend this week doing various community service projects, mainly volunteering at the wildlife Project where you will work closely (but not too close) with lions. Settling in for the week will be an excellent chance for cultural immersion as we will be working side by side with locals from nearby communities.
