“Moondance is a remarkable thing and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been able to experience what I have. It has made me who I am and will shape who I become.”

With cities forged from stone, mountains painting the sky and rivers thick with white-capped waves, journeying to Peru will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time. Peru draws travelers and adventurers from all over the world. Mountaineers come to try their luck on many of the glacier-covered Andes. Paddlers are drawn to the rapids flowing out of these mountains. Trekkers, journalists, photographers, and tourists worldwide travel to Peru to hike the ancient trails of the Incan Empire and to visit the sacred ruins of Machu Picchu, tucked inside a mountain saddle, worlds away from time and modern machinery. This trip through Peru will take you on an unforgettable adventure. From living with Peruvian families and volunteering in small communities to hiking the Inca Trail and rafting the longest river in the world, this eye-opening journey will help you discover more about the world and your place in it.
Backpacking – Inca Trail
Hike up and down winding mountain passes and through the ruins of a once well established Incan Empire. See it to believe that the spirit is still alive and present throughout this seemingly abandoned kingdom. We will travel the footpaths created long, long ago by Incans who ran the routes as a means of security and communication throughout the Empire. Reach altitudes of nearly 5,000 meters, passing llamas and Peruvian families based along the trail. Discover an ancient city, an archeologically and artistically unbelievable feat imbedded in the lush mountains of a cloud forest.
Homestay, Cultural Immersion and Community Service – Cusco
Jump into the shoes of a local as you settle in with various Peruvian families. Get a legitimate taste of the culture by cooking and eating with your family. Perfect your language skills by taking Spanish classes and actually using the Spanish in your home and on the streets of Cusco. Spend time exploring the areas and ruins surrounding Cusco to develop a better understanding of the once thriving capital of the Inca Empire. Visit a local orphanage for a dose of laughter and learning with Peruvian children as you teach them English and practice your own Spanish.
Whitewater Rafting – Apurimac River
Kick off your hiking boots and grab a paddle for one of the most amazing stretches of river in the world (literally). The Apurimac River, being a direct source of the Amazon, is one of the longest rivers in the world. Paddle class III and IV rapids through narrow and high rising canyon walls. Sleep on isolated beaches and count the shooting stars of the southern hemisphere while you mentally prepare for another day on the river.
Sea Kayak, Cultural Immersion –Lake Titicaca
Prepare to hike into a small village on the southern tip of Taquile Island, and meet with your sea kayaking instructors at a rural lodge. After a good night’s rest and a day of exploring the culture of this remote town, you will discover the cool waters of the world’s highest navigable lake, Lake Titicaca, as you paddle 12,507 feet above sea level. Race with your new friends in your kayaks and explore the beauty of the Peruvian coastline.
