Washington state encompasses one of the largest, unbroken mountain ecosystems and some of the most untamed natural coastline in North America. The challenging terrain of the Cascades and the biological diversity of the Olympic Peninsula combine to create unmatched surroundings for developing expertise in wilderness travel and group leadership. Moondance Leadership takes full advantage of this natural classroom, leading up to a summit attempt of Mt. Rainier.
Beach Backpacking -- Olympic National Park
Learn the basics of wilderness travel with four days of coastal backpacking on the Olympic Peninsula. Marvel at the sculptured cliffs, arches and sea stacks; explore tide pools filled with sea life; and share dazzling sunsets with the bald eagles, sea otters, and sea lions who also make this coast their home.
Mountain Backpacking -- Olympic National Park
Head inland to undertake an extended backpacking expedition in the Olympic Mountains, exploring magnificent temperate rainforest and climbing to flower-filled meadows and sweeping snowfields above treeline. Gain rewarding leadership experience and hone your backcountry skills as you continue to train for the coming summit attempt.
Rock Climb Smith Rock
Journey down to the country’s most popular climbing locale where you will test and expand on your climbing abilities. Challenge yourself on various top rope climbs as your group cheers you on from below.
