Thank you for nurturing in my girl--and others--a determination to sleep on soggy ground because she's learned that the view of the stars is always worth the wet!”

The Big Wild samples the highest and wildest terrain the Northern Rockies offer. Journey into the heart of one of the most awe-inspiring regions on Earth to enjoy roaring rapids, wildflower meadows, jagged peaks, and alpine lakes full of hungry trout. Experience one of the most spectacular and exciting multi-day rafting adventures in the country on the Salmon River.
Backpacking & Fly Fishing -- Wind River Range, WY
The Big Wild begins with a backpacking section through the open ranges and jagged peaks of Wyoming's Wind River Mountains. Once acquainted with one another and familiar with your gear, spend the next week hiking some of the most stunning regions of the Winds. Climb through boulder fields and atop jagged peaks for breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Then try your hand at fly casting as you fly fish for rainbows and cutthroats in the gem-clear alpine lakes. Marvel over the granite monuments, sweeping meadows, jagged peaks, and alpine lakes full of hungry trout.
Whitewater Rafting -- Salmon River, ID
Next, accept the challenge of rafting on the main fork of Idaho's legendary Salmon River. The rapids roar; eagles and hawks circle above the walls of the canyons; and always, the current runs on, pushing you along one of the most scenic rivers in America. For four days, you'll have the chance to learn to read the rapids as you finesse a paddle through Class III and IV rapids.

Rock Climbing -- Grand Teton National Park
Your group then joins world-renowned Exum Mountain Guides, your professional climbing instructors who introduce you to the fundamentals of rock climbing. You'll spend two days in Grand Teton National Park learning to climb the jagged, vertical peaks of the Tetons that overlook the Snake River valley below. Beginning with the basics, your guides teach fundamentals such as top-roping, belaying, and rappelling with a continuing emphasis on proper safety procedures. The Tetons offer an excellent array of climbing appropriate for all abilities, and your instructors will help you select routes with the right degree of challenge as your abilities improve. On your final evening together, visit the old western town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming where you'll celebrate your adventure and share memories at a farewell banquet. |
