Backpacking update, 7/23/03
We heard from Ashley today who was very excited to report that this group did an excellent job on the backpacking section. The group is having a great time and the backcountry was good to them. They caught wild trout and fried them by the alpine lakes for dinner, had a succesful summit day on the continental divide and enjoyed excellent weather. As the report, Ashley, Amy and crew have put together a little song:
Big Wild II in the Wind River Mountains
(To the tune of the famous Beatles song-"Lucy in the Sky")
Picture your kids in the Wind River Mountains
with alpine wildflowers to the left and the right.
They start up the trail for a week in this wild place,
Learning lessons through the days and the nights.
Nash is a rock star, he maps out the way.
Nick tracks the animals' footprints.
Katie leads the group on the trail everyday, and she's gone. Big Wild II in the Wind River Mountains,
Big Wild II in the Wind River Mountains,
Big Wild II in the Wind River Mountains, ahh, ahh, ahh!
The fourth day in the woods, sunny weather changes slightly;
The rain settles dust while we hike.
Casey turns and smiles, with a gleam in her eye,
Saying let's truck up the Continental Divide. John finds a snow patch to cool off our brows.
Sally teaches River crossing 101.
We sing and laugh down the trail everyday, and we're gone. Catching trout in the Wind River Mountains,
Cold swimming in the Wind River Mountains,
Star gazing in the Wind River Mountains, ahh, ahh, ahh! Natalie's inspiration helps us perform at our best.
Margie is a great friend to all.
Hugh takes the weight off any who ache, and we're gone! Burning up trails in the Wind River Mountains,
Loving our life in the Wind River Mountains,
Big Wild II in the Wind River Mountains,
Big Wild II in the Wind River Mountains, ahh, ahh ahh!
Hello all. Amy and I love this group of kids. We hope your summer is as satisfying as ours.
Sincerely,
Ashley and Amy P.S. We are all having the time of our lives the wildness of Western America.
Next up.the Tetons !!!
